Four boys and four girls were selected\u00a0 to represent WA based off of the Talent 10 rounds at the end of 2017. When selecting the teams both results and attitude were taken into consideration.<\/p>\n<p>This year the finals had a different format, with individual players mixing into different teams from other states. The new format was a great success with the players making new friends from other states and playing against players of similar levels.<\/p>\n<p>Jake Dembo was lucky enough to be chosen to flip the coin for the Australian Open Men&#8217;s final! The camp was held for the best players born in 2005 in the country. WA proudly had the largest pool of players selected with Jessie Culley, Taylah Preston, Lily Fairclough and Abbi Gibson all selected to attend. Cara Black attended the camp as coach and mentor to the girls. Cara is a former Number 1 doubles player, having won 10 Grand Slam Titles and 60 WTA Doubles Titles.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of the camp was the last two days when the girls attended the Fed Cup tie. The girls watched the Australian Fed Cup team train, met with the players and attended both days of the tie. Derek was selected along with Alec Braund (QLD) and Edward Winter (SA).<\/p>\n<p>The selection comes after a great year of results for Derek; he reached the final of the 14\/U Australian Clay Court Championships in Canberra, was selected for the Australian Tour to Europe, reached a ranking of Number 1 for his age group and won numerous junior titles.
