{"id":12403,"date":"2017-11-20T16:16:11","date_gmt":"2017-11-20T08:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=12403"},"modified":"2017-11-20T16:16:11","modified_gmt":"2017-11-20T08:16:11","slug":"hundreds-of-school-kids-inspired-by-mastercard-hopman-cups-30th-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2017\/11\/20\/hundreds-of-school-kids-inspired-by-mastercard-hopman-cups-30th-year","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds of school kids inspired by Mastercard Hopman Cup\u2019s 30th year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Mastercard Hopman Cup\u2019s 30 schools in 30 days<\/strong> tour visited Noranda last Friday, where more than <strong>300<\/strong> Year 5 and 6 students from <strong>13<\/strong> different schools across Perth were playing in the\u00a0<strong>Catholic Primary School Sporting Association (CPSSA) Red Ball Gala<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-three teams were split across five pools and 56 Red Ball tennis courts. As part of the day, students played mixed doubles to celebrate the Mastercard Hopman Cup\u2019s 30-year milestone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The competition was the largest Red Ball Gala to held in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Mastercard Hopman Cup\u2019s brand new mascot, \u2018Hoppy<strong>\u2019<\/strong> the Quokka, made a special appearance on the day as well as the prestigious Hopman Cup trophy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tennis West Schools Coordinator <strong>Jason Marrable <\/strong>is thrilled with the level of interest and excitement that this event and the wider tour has generated across the school community in WA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis competition provides the perfect opportunity for students who participate in the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots program to put their newly acquired skills to the test in a fun and supportive environment,\u201d Marrable said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Further information<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During the month of November the <strong>Mastercard Hopman Cu<\/strong>p will visit <strong>30 schools in 30 days<\/strong> to celebrate 30 years of the tournament in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This month more than 1500 students in schools and inter-school tennis competitions across Perth and the South West region of Western Australia will be involved.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Children will be able to get up close and personal with the Hopman Cup trophy and meet the tournament\u2019s new mascot \u2018Hoppy\u2019 the Quokka.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kids will also have the opportunity to pick up a racquet and play <strong>ANZ Tennis Hot Shots<\/strong>, Tennis Australia\u2019s official development program, and learn more about the history of the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Children can attend the Mastercard Hopman Cup in 2018 for just $5 during the day and $10 for all night sessions excluding the final in a move to welcome more young tennis fans to Perth Arena and give kids the opportunity to watch some of the best players in the world compete<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All schools taking part in the tour are currently running tennis within their school curriculum as part of Tennis Australia\u2019s <strong>School Partnership Program<\/strong>.
