{"id":12301,"date":"2017-09-07T10:48:38","date_gmt":"2017-09-07T02:48:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=12301"},"modified":"2017-10-23T10:13:48","modified_gmt":"2017-10-23T02:13:48","slug":"matt-ebden-serves-up-60-racquets-to-our-ladys-assumption-ps-thanks-to-anz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2017\/09\/07\/matt-ebden-serves-up-60-racquets-to-our-ladys-assumption-ps-thanks-to-anz","title":{"rendered":"Matt Ebden serves up 60 racquets to Our Lady&#8217;s Assumption PS thanks to ANZ!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Local West Australian tennis star and world no. 137 <strong>Matt Ebden<\/strong> visited Our Lady\u2019s Assumption School in Dianella on Wednesday as part of the <strong>ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Racquet Roadshow<\/strong> which is celebrating a record <strong>80,000 tennis racquets<\/strong> delivered to primary school students across the country.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ebden, who has just returned after playing US Open qualifying, joined ANZ Branch representative <strong>Tanya Brynjulfsen<\/strong> to visit the Dianella school and deliver <strong>more than 60 <\/strong>brand new tennis racquets to the school\u2019s pre-primary students, thanks to ANZ.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ANZ Tennis Hot Shots<\/strong> and the <strong>School Partnership Program<\/strong> are vital elements of Tennis Australia\u2019s mission to encourage more children to pick up a racquet and learn tennis as part of their health and physical education curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ANZ\u2019s support of the initiative has ensured pre-primary students from registered schools receive a brand new racquet, with tens of thousands involved since January 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are currently more than <strong>2,000 <\/strong>schools across Australia participating in the School Partnership Program as part of their health and physical education curriculum, with <strong>more than 200 <\/strong>located in <strong>Western Australia.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nationwide more than <strong>213,883<\/strong> children played ANZ Tennis Hot Shots in 2015\/16, making it one of Australia\u2019s most popular sport participation programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Todd Woodbridge, who has also been visiting schools as part of the roadshow, has enjoyed presenting the brand new ANZ racquets to primary students across Australia, and introducing them to the sport he loves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn just two years ANZ has helped us introduce tennis to kids in schools by delivering 80,000 racquets across the country which is an amazing achievement,\u201d Woodbridge said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe racquet initiative is a fantastic way to introduce and encourage more kids to play tennis and have fun, as well as help to identify the future champions of our sport.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe School Partnership Program gives primary school students the opportunity to play tennis as part of their curriculum and to keep active and fit,\u201d Woodbridge continued.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tennis Australia CEO <strong>Craig Tiley <\/strong>firmly believes sports like tennis are vital to children\u2019s health and wellbeing at a young age.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSport has, and continues to play, a very significant role in the lives of all Australian families and communities,\u201d Tiley said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchools provide great opportunities for children to participate in sports, which in turn develops the physical, social and emotional skills which are critical to a child\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Tennis Australia, we are very proud to support Australian schools and teachers in the delivery of sustainable health and physical education programs. The program uses smaller courts, racquets and low compression tennis balls<\/li>\n<li>ANZ Tennis Hot Shots is one of Australia\u2019s most popular sports participation programs for the five to 12 year old age group<\/li>\n<li>A record <strong>213,883<\/strong> children played ANZ Tennis Hot Shots nationwide in 2015\/16.
