{"id":11862,"date":"2017-02-28T12:38:18","date_gmt":"2017-02-28T04:38:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=11862"},"modified":"2017-02-28T12:38:18","modified_gmt":"2017-02-28T04:38:18","slug":"2017-sunsmart-country-schools-classic-is-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2017\/02\/28\/2017-sunsmart-country-schools-classic-is-underway","title":{"rendered":"2017 SunSmart Country Schools Classic is underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>2017 SunSmart Country Schools Classic<\/strong> is underway with the South West and Great Southern regions having already completed their qualifying tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A record 47 teams competed over two days at the Bunbury Tennis Club.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dunsborough Primary School<\/strong> won their pool in their very first year of competing and were\u00a0invited to Perth for the finals. <strong>Georgiana Molloy Anglican School<\/strong> topped the other pool and were also\u00a0invited to the State Finals on the 17<sup>th<\/sup> of March.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the secondary schools event &#8211; the Herbert Edwards Cup, \u00a0<strong>Georgiana Molloy Anglican School<\/strong> and <strong>Bunbury Catholic College<\/strong> qualified for the girls and boys State Finals respectively.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bunbury Catholic College<\/strong> and <strong>St Mary&#8217;s Mackillop College<\/strong> were also successful in qualifying for the Mursell Shield\/Slazenger Cup Boys State Finals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The day ended with a grandstand finish for the Girls Mursell Shield\/Slazenger Cup coming down to the final doubles match with all the remaining schools watching on from the clubhouse, eventually qualification was won by <strong>Bunbury Catholic College<\/strong> and <strong>Manea Senior College.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Central Districts tournament also got underway at the Beverly Lawn Tennis Club with <strong>Cunderdin District High School<\/strong> qualifying for both the boys and girls Mursell Shield finals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>St Joseph\u2019s School<\/strong> qualified for the Herbert Edwards Boys and <strong>Merredin College<\/strong> took out the Herbert Edwards Girls. <strong>Beverley District High Schoo<\/strong>l was successful in qualifying for the Academy Plate State Finals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All of the finalist will have the opportunity to compete against the other region&#8217;s finalists on the 17<sup>th<\/sup> of March to determine who is the SunSmart Country Tennis Classic Champion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2017 SunSmart Country Schools Classic is underway with the South West and Great Southern regions having already completed their qualifying tournaments. &nbsp; A record 47 teams competed over two days at the Bunbury Tennis Club.
