{"id":11630,"date":"2016-11-10T13:35:41","date_gmt":"2016-11-10T05:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=11630"},"modified":"2016-11-10T13:36:44","modified_gmt":"2016-11-10T05:36:44","slug":"wa-tennis-industry-awards-wrap-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2016\/11\/10\/wa-tennis-industry-awards-wrap-up","title":{"rendered":"WA Tennis Industry Awards Wrap-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em>Manning Tennis Club named Club of the Year at WA Tennis Industry Awards Night<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manning Tennis Club<\/strong> was recently named Most Outstanding Club at the <strong>2016 WA Tennis Industry Awards Night<\/strong> held on Friday 28 October at the State Reception Centre, Kings Park.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Winning the major award of the evening, Manning Tennis Club was a standout club in the 2015\/16 year, owing to the club\u2019s inviting culture, accessibility to the community, and implementation of Tennis Australia programs and competitive opportunities for players.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With over 150 members, the club offers year-round playing opportunities, and organises social events throughout the year designed to foster the camaraderie amongst the club and wider community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Club is firmly entrenched within the fabric of the local community, running midweek social competitions for both members and non-members, enabling local playgroups to use their facilities, and building relationships with nearby schools, including Clontarf Aboriginal College who hire the club\u2019s courts for their school tennis program. \u00a0The club also actively fundraises for various charities &#8211; this year raising over $1,000 for Redkite through their Redkite Tennis Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Manning Tennis Club President, <strong>Ajay Tandon<\/strong> was extremely honoured for his club to be recognised with such a prestigious award<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are a club that prides itself on having something for everyone, we view ourselves not just as a tennis club but a part of the City of South Perth community. We are truly proud of our club\u2019s achievements and humbled to be named the 2016 Most Outstanding Club\u201d Mr Tandon said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Most Outstanding Club Award was one of 15 awards presented throughout the evening to a crowd of over 230 guests.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Channel 7\u2019s, <strong>Peter Vlahos<\/strong> did a fantastic job of entertaining the guests all night in his role as Master of Ceremonies, whilst Headline Act <strong>Peter Rowsthorn<\/strong> had everyone in stitches throughout his \u00a0entire standup comedy routine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe WA Tennis Industry Awards provide an opportunity to celebrate tennis in Western Australia and recognise the outstanding achievements of our State\u2019s junior and senior players, officials, coaches, volunteers, administrators and clubs\u201d said <strong>Tennis West President, Wayne Firns<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis is experiencing fantastic growth in WA at the moment and this event is a great opportunity to take stock, reflect on the achievements of everyone and enjoy each other\u2019s company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s Australian Open wildcard winner, <strong>Maddison Inglis<\/strong> took home the <strong>Junior Tennis Star Award, <\/strong>which recognises a player 18\/U who is ranked number 1 in their age group in WA and has a demonstrated record of playing for Australia. \u00a0Inglis continues to climb the WTA rankings whilst playing the Pro Tour Events domestically and internationally. She has represented Australia on numerous occasions most recently as the \u2018Orange Girl\u2019 with the Australian Fed Cup Team.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Laurie Apps, <\/strong>President of the <strong>Fremantle Lawn Tennis club <\/strong>was awarded the <strong>Volunteer Achievement Award<\/strong> after serving on the management committee of the club as President and Vice-President for over ten years. Laurie has also been the driving force behind the Fremantle Park Redevelopment Project since 2006.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew Holmes<\/strong>, Head Coach at <strong>Reabold Tennis Club<\/strong> took home the <strong>Coaching Excellence \u2013 Club Award<\/strong> for the high level of junior development at Reabold and the larger community, with a total of 1,486 coaching participants in the last financial year across a variety of programs, including ANZ Tennis Hot Shots, private lessons, Talent ID squads, High Performance programs, FitBit Cardio Tennis, ladies coaching, beginner classes and school holiday clinics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite some tough competition <strong>Wembley Primary School<\/strong> took out the title of <strong>Most Outstanding School, <\/strong>for their commitment to providing their students with an opportunity to play tennis at school as well as provide links to their local club. Every term the school offers a \u201cBefore-school tennis program\u201d in conjunction with the Floreat Tennis Club.
