{"id":11595,"date":"2016-10-06T17:16:34","date_gmt":"2016-10-06T09:16:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=11595"},"modified":"2016-10-06T17:16:34","modified_gmt":"2016-10-06T09:16:34","slug":"kyrgios-gavrilova-to-join-federer-at-hopman-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2016\/10\/06\/kyrgios-gavrilova-to-join-federer-at-hopman-cup","title":{"rendered":"Kyrgios, Gavrilova to join Federer at Hopman Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australian wonder duo and defending champions <strong>Nick Kyrgios<\/strong> and <strong>Daria Gavrilova<\/strong> are returning to Perth and will join Swiss superstar and 17-time Grand Slam champion <strong>Roger Federer<\/strong> and <strong>Belinda Bencic<\/strong> for the 29<sup>th<\/sup> staging of the <strong>Hopman Cup<\/strong> from 1 to 7 January 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Former world No.7 <strong>Richard Gasquet<\/strong> will team up with <strong>Kristina Mladenovic<\/strong> for France.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Spain\u2019s four-time Davis Cup champion <strong>Feliciano Lopez<\/strong> and <strong>Lara Arruabarrena<\/strong> will make their Hopman Cup debut.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And<strong> Heather Watson <\/strong>is back with world No.56 <strong>Daniel Evans <\/strong>to represent<strong> Great Britain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The four teams announced today join American\u2019s <strong>Jack Sock<\/strong> and <strong>Coco Vandeweghe<\/strong>; the Czech Republic\u2019s <strong>Petra Kvitova<\/strong> and <strong>Adam Pavlasek<\/strong> and Germany\u2019s <strong>Alexander Zverev<\/strong> and <strong>Andrea Petkovic<\/strong>, as some of the biggest names in tennis are set to start the New Year in Western Australia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In total, <strong>four current top 20 players<\/strong>, <strong>nine current top 40 players<\/strong> and <strong>nine players who each recorded career-high rankings in 2016<\/strong> will be vying for the Hopman Cup title in January.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The field boasts <strong>seven Grand Slam champions<\/strong> across both singles, doubles and mixed doubles and <strong>four Olympic medallists<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios and Gavrilova aim to become the first duo to defend their Hopman Cup title in the tournament\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was probably one of my favourite events of the year,\u201d Kyrgios, the current world No.15, said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe men\u2019s field is very strong coming up. For me Perth is a great place to have it, especially before the Australian Open, the Aussie summer, its perfect conditions and I\u2019m really looking forward to coming back.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there is a little bit of pressure there. You know a lot of people want to win that event, it\u2019s a lot of fun and there has been some great champions there.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAustralia hadn\u2019t won it for a long, long time so to be coming back there it\u2019s pretty exciting to be defending the title.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-two-year-old Gavrilova really enjoyed her time in Perth and is looking forward to returning.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super excited to come back to Perth for the Hopman Cup. I really enjoyed my time there, the city, the arena is unbelievable, I can\u2019t wait,\u201d Gavrilova, who reached a career high ranking of 32 in May, said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was really fun playing with Nick, teaming up with him. He is a really good team mate, and as you would know he is a really funny guy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be unbelievable to win it again, the title, the whole thing. It would be incredibly tough, we did it last year and we are going to give it our best shot&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>French world No.17 and 2012 Hopman Cup finalist Gasquet has great memories of the tournament and will be looking to better his results in Perth.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an incredible tournament. It\u2019s well organised. I remember I played 2012, I reached the final,\u201d Gasquet said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was great memories, I started perfectly the season, I can play three matches there and it is the best preparation for Melbourne. I want to be in Australia, and Perth is an incredible city, it\u2019s very nice, it\u2019s wonderful\u2026 that is why I want to come back there.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe crowd was amazing, many people cheering for Australia and for France. It\u2019s a nice city, Australian people are very kind. Especially those in Perth really like tennis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hopman Cup Tournament Director <strong>Paul Kilderry<\/strong> is delighted with the confirmed field for 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFour top 20 players and nine top 40 players will be in Perth in January,\u201d Kilderry said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have Roger Federer, 17-time Grand Slam champion and one of the greatest tennis players of all time, returning to Perth for the first time in 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNick Kyrgios and Daria Gavrilova will be back to defend their title for Australia.
