The 2016 City of Joondalup Junior Hard Court Tournament was generously sponsored by the City of Joondalup, Tennis Only and Sports Surfaces.
There were 235 entries, 40 of these from clubs in the City of Joondalup and entrants included many of WA’s best junior players. After many rain delays, that caused the cancellation of some consolation events and shortening of match format, the finals were played on Monday 11th July with a display of very high quality tennis.
Amongst the highlights of the finals were the 10/U singles events convincingly won in straight sets by Brendan Jayaprakash and Jana Ruzic.
Feedback from the officials, players and their families was very positive and the Sorrento Tennis Club was complemented on its excellent facilities and food kiosk and the high standard of organising and running of the tournament.
The Sorrento Tennis Club wishes to thank our sponsors and also Tennis West, Tennis Officials, volunteers and participants for making it a very successful tournament. With 48 entries in the Mens singles and 32 in the Womens, the competition was small and strong. Maddison Inglis ran away with the singles title, only dropping 7 games along the way, whilst Dominic Bechard was forced to fight much harder for his singles and doubles titles with Jake Faundez by his side. Megan Kauffman and Sally Partington almost matched Maddison’s efforts, clinching the doubles title with a loss of only 9 games.

The Tennis West Youth Club’s opening Table Tennis competition kept spirits high through the cold nights, allowing the returning college players another chance to show off the other kinds of skills they had gained whilst away. The youngest competitor Brendan Jayaprakash proved that skill doesn’t always come with age, defeating Maddy Muller-Hughes, 6 years his senior in a nail biting final.

Results: Perth Winter Twilight AMT

26 -30 June 2016 – State Tennis Centre

Silver Series AMT – 84 Players and 126 Entries

Men’s singles

Dominic Bechard [3] defeated Zach Itzstein [1] 6-3 6-2

Women’s Singles

Maddison Inglis [1] defeated Megan Kauffman [2] 6-0 6-2

Men’s Doubles

Dominic Bechard [2] & Jake Faundez defeated Zach Itzstein & Rhys Johnson [1] 2-6 7-6(3) 10-6

Women’s Doubles

Megan Kauffman & Sally Partington [1] defeated Monique Barry & Madelaine Muller-Hughes [2] 6-2 6-3

Tennis West Youth Club (TWYC) Update

This month the Tennis West Youth Club held its very first Table Tennis Championship, alongside the Silver Twilight AMT. The competition proved there is no difference in skill level due to age or sex with 10 year old Brendan Jayaprakash defeating 16 year old Maddy Muller-Hughes in a high speed, tense, final. Pizza and Bieber on repeat kept spirits high through the cold nights, TWYC will be holding another Table Tennis tournament alongside the upcoming State Open Age, check out the web page below:

http://tournaments.tennis.com.au/sport/tournament.aspx?id=BAF6F1C9-AD1F-4C44-9FEA-384DE72B2B38

Or the Facebook event:

https://www.facebook.com/events/1733802683546500/

2016 City of Joondalup Junior Hard Court Tournament The Sorrento Tennis Club recently hosted one of the top junior tennis tournaments in WA during the July school holidays.
