{"id":11291,"date":"2016-06-09T11:39:20","date_gmt":"2016-06-09T03:39:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=11291"},"modified":"2016-06-09T11:41:26","modified_gmt":"2016-06-09T03:41:26","slug":"backin-it-up-platinum-style","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2016\/06\/09\/backin-it-up-platinum-style","title":{"rendered":"Backin&#8217; it up Platinum Style"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the 13th &#8211; 22nd of May, 180 athletes competed in the back-to-back <strong>Perth Platinum<\/strong> and <strong>WA Open tournaments<\/strong> for their chance to follow in the footsteps of previous winners, and Australian Tennis Legends Lleyton Hewitt, Frank Sedgman, Harry Hopman, Evonne Goolagong and Margaret Court.<\/p>\n<p>The swing attracted some of Australia\u2019s best players including Australian No. 36, <strong>Max Purcell,<\/strong> D<strong>arren Polkinghorne<\/strong> (45), <strong>Catherine Krueger<\/strong> (51), and WA&#8217;s own <strong>Zach Itzstein<\/strong> (50).<\/p>\n<p>The tournaments aligned perfectly with the Northern Hemisphere\u2019s \u201cSpring Break\u201d, thereby enticing many of the young West Aussie\u2019s who have chosen the American Collegiate path back to their home State, making for a nostalgic, friendly tournament series.<\/p>\n<p>Polkinghorne and Purcell faced off in both Finals resulting in a win each way.<\/p>\n<p>WA local\u2019s <strong>Scott Jones<\/strong> and <strong>Joel Pleydell<\/strong> teamed up to win the Perth Platinum Doubles Final.<\/p>\n<p>The WA Open Men\u2019s Doubles was also won by Jones, but this time with Polkinghorne as his partner.<\/p>\n<p>Victoria\u2019s <strong>Alana Parnaby<\/strong> blew the competition out of the water, taking both Women\u2019s Singles titles. However, her opponent in the WA Open Final, <strong>Karis Ryan<\/strong> didn\u2019t hold a grudge, pairing up with Parnaby to take out the WA Open Women\u2019s Doubles Event.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">PERTH PLATINUM RESULTS<\/span> <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Mens Singles:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Max Purcell<\/strong> def.
