The Cottesloe men used their home ground advantage to put on a dominant performance against <strong>Wembley Downs<\/strong>, defeating the visitors 3-1. In the Women\u2019s Final, Blue Gum Park had a come-from-behind win over <strong>North Beach Tennis Club<\/strong>, in one of the closest finals in recent history, defeating the visiting team by just one set.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the Men\u2019s Final, Cottesloe stalwart <strong>Brett Patten <\/strong>capitalised on the home side support to get him over the line in a tight contest against the in-form <strong>Jake Robinson. <\/strong>Patten took the opening match in straight sets 7-5, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a battle between some of the State&#8217;s best,\u00a0Cottesloe\u2019s <strong>Joel Pleydell <\/strong>took on Wembley Downs Captain\u00a0<strong>Brenton Bacon<\/strong> in a tight three set match that saw Pleydell lose the first set 5-7 before taking the next two 6-4, 6-1.\u00a0 Cottesloe number one, <strong>Andrew Roberts<\/strong> continued the winning form of his teammates, dominating the first set 6-0 against Wembley Downs\u2019 <strong>Dean Cochrane<\/strong>. Cochrane managed to make a second set revival, leading 5 sets to love, before Roberts made a thrilling comeback, taking the set and match 7-5.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wembley Downs\u2019 <strong>Sam Ashenden<\/strong> kept his team alive leading into the Doubles, defeating <strong>Scott Jones<\/strong> 6-3, 6-2. However, ultimately Cottesloe proved to be too strong for the Wembley Downs Men, taking both doubles matches, and the Final 5-1.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s final, held at Blue Gum Park TC, was played over two days after the close and lengthy singles matches caused the doubles to be postponed due to lack of light. Day one ended with North Beach leading 3-1, after <strong>Kay Leigh Nicholas, Hannah Innes <\/strong>and <strong>Shona Lee <\/strong>all notched up some fiercely contested wins in their singles matches against <strong>Nina Catovic<\/strong>, <strong>Astrid Kanther<\/strong> and <strong>Nicole Sewell<\/strong> respectively. The Final re-commenced at 8.30am on Sunday with North Beach in the driver\u2019s seat to take home their first ever Women\u2019s State League Shield. However, Blue Gum Park fought back with a renewed determination to defend their 2014\/15 title, taking out both doubles matches against the visiting North Beach team.
