{"id":10830,"date":"2016-01-15T10:50:52","date_gmt":"2016-01-15T02:50:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=10830"},"modified":"2016-01-15T10:50:52","modified_gmt":"2016-01-15T02:50:52","slug":"schoolkate-and-inglis-lead-wa-charge-at-australian-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2016\/01\/15\/schoolkate-and-inglis-lead-wa-charge-at-australian-nationals","title":{"rendered":"Schoolkate and Inglis lead WA Charge at Australian Nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>National Academy Perth athletes <strong>Maddison Inglis<\/strong> and <strong>Tristan Schoolkate<\/strong> have lead a successful Western Australian National championships campaign during the December Showdown held in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After the disappointment of narrowly missing out on an Australian Open Wildcard losing in the final of the girls 18\u2019s Australian Championships; Inglis showed her hunger to compete, and bounced back to win the Women\u2019s Australian Open Wildcard Event and secure a main draw position alongside the world&#8217;s best players at the Australian Open to be played this month.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Schoolkate, the tournament&#8217;s top seed in the boys 14\/under event produced some of his best tennis to make the final, but eventually lost to Victorian <strong>Ken Cavrak<\/strong>\u00a0in a high quality, big-hitting final 6-4 6-2. Schoolkate then partnered Cavrak to win the boys 14\/under doubles final. With this win, Schoolkate has won both the 12\/under and 14\/under national doubles titles.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In other events, Talent Development Squad member <strong>Lauren Nikoloski<\/strong> produced her best performance of the year placing\u00a0fifth\u00a0in the girl\u2019s 12\/under event. Nikoloski demonstrated her competitive spirit losing to only the eventual winner Lara Walker of Queensland in the quarter finals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the girl\u2019s 14\/u event Tennis West squad member,\u00a0<strong>Tara Gilich<\/strong> used her athletic attributes to produce\u00a0her strongest Australian Championship result, finishing seventh.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the on-court results, three Western Australian players demonstrated the National Academy Values <em>(Compete, Commit and Respect<\/em>) and won awards. Each day, a player was selected on the basis that they\u00a0demonstrated positive behaviours that reflect the academy\u00a0values.
