There were 274 entries, playing over 400 matches, culminating in the finals held at the State Tennis Centre on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were 68 boys in the 12\u2019s playing through qualifying and the main draw, ending in a final match between two Luka\u2019s (the chair umpire knew which was which), with<strong> Luka Brown<\/strong> (4) winning 6-4,6-2 over <strong>Luca Katsamaki<\/strong>s (7). Luka Brown had defeated the number one seed, <strong>Arden De Melo,<\/strong> and Luca Katsamakis defeated the number two seed<strong> Ryan Mcconkey<\/strong> to progress to an exciting final. Luca Katsamakis then teamed up with <strong>Kendrick Chia<\/strong> (4) to play the doubles final against Luka Brown and his partner <strong>Derek Pham<\/strong> (2), winning a very close match 7-6(3) and 7-5.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the girl\u2019s 12\u2019s event, the top seeds played each other with second seed <strong>Casey Tay<\/strong> victorious in a nail-biter with <strong>Natasha Camer-Pesc<\/strong>i, losing the first set 2-6 and winning the next two 6-3,6-0. Casey and her partner <strong>Talia Gibson<\/strong> then won the doubles final against <strong>Shanelle Iaconi<\/strong> and <strong>Taylah Preston<\/strong>, 6-3,6-3.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The top seed in the boys 14\u2019s, <strong>\u00a0Conor Enslin<\/strong>, fell to <strong>Charlie Dossiter<\/strong>, and the second seed, <strong>Narayan<\/strong> <strong>Judge<\/strong> retired with a rib injury, allowing fifth seed <strong>Kenneth Prete<\/strong> and sixth seed <strong>Reuben Giorgio<\/strong> to progress to the final, with Kenneth claiming the win 6-4,6-2. Kenneth and his partner <strong>Ben Dachs<\/strong> then beat <strong>Leyton Ashby<\/strong> and<strong> Joshua Martelli<\/strong> in the doubles final.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Friends and doubles partners, <strong>Nadia Rajan<\/strong> (1) and <strong>Crystal Mildwaters<\/strong> (3) took the court against each other in the girls 14\u2019s singles with Crystal winning 6-2,6-3. They returned to defeat <strong>Ruby Culley<\/strong> and <strong>Georgia Tovich,<\/strong> seeded second, in the doubles final 6-2, 7-6.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another Luca won the boy\u2019s 16\u2019s, <strong>Luca Bonini<\/strong> (3) beat <strong>Daniel Downey<\/strong> (4) 6-4,6-2 in the final. After beating <strong>Daniel Downey<\/strong> and <strong>Simon Ferreira<\/strong> in the doubles semi\u2019s, <strong>Harry Burrell<\/strong> and<strong> Lachlan Ivulich<\/strong> (4) played a great match against<strong> Evan Manso<\/strong> and <strong>Elliott Smith<\/strong> (3), winning in a match tie-breaker 7-6, 5-7, 10-2.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The top seeds in the girls 16\u2019s progressed easily to the finals, with <strong>Jasmine Carswell<\/strong> (1) losing only 4 games and <strong>Maddy Muller-Hughes<\/strong> (2) losing only 5 games. The first set of the finals was tightly fought, going 7-5 in favour of Maddy, who then took the second set 6-1 to earn the trophy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Many of these players had returned from the Rod Laver in Queensland or played the Silver event at Sorrento the week prior so there was no shortage of good matches for them over the holidays. Well done everyone. Back to school, training and league matches until the next holidays. Keep up the good work.
