{"id":10308,"date":"2015-06-08T09:47:18","date_gmt":"2015-06-08T01:47:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/?p=10308"},"modified":"2015-06-08T09:47:18","modified_gmt":"2015-06-08T01:47:18","slug":"dellacqua-falls-in-french-open-doubles-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/news\/2015\/06\/08\/dellacqua-falls-in-french-open-doubles-final","title":{"rendered":"Dellacqua Falls in French Open Doubles Final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2015\/06\/casey-dubs-final.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10309\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wa\/files\/2015\/06\/casey-dubs-final.jpg\" alt=\"casey dubs final\" width=\"400\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Australian tennis ace <strong>Casey Dellacqua<\/strong> has fallen a set short of securing her maiden Grand Slam women\u2019s doubles crown after losing the French Open final with<strong> Yaroslava Shvedova.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dellacqua and the Kazakh went down 3-6 6-4 6-2 to singles runner-up<strong> Lucie Safarova<\/strong> and the Czech\u2019s American partner<strong> Bethanie Mattek-Sands<\/strong> in Sunday\u2019s championship match.<\/p>\n<p>The defeat continues the West Australian\u2019s run of outs in major finals after she lost the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open title matches in 2013 with compatriot Ashleigh Barty.<\/p>\n<p>It was Dellacqua\u2019s second finals near miss in Paris after the 30-year-old and former singles champion Francesca Schiavone lost in three sets to Spaniards Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascal in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Dellacqua, though, has enjoyed some success at Roland Garros, having teamed with American <strong>Scott Lipsky<\/strong> to land the mixed doubles crown in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The best player on court in Sunday\u2019s final, Dellacqua earned $165,000 for her handy work.<\/p>\n<p>The victory was a nice consolation for Safarova after the left-hander succumbed in three sets to world No.1 Serena Williams on Saturday\u2019s thrilling women\u2019s singles final.<\/p>\n<p>Safarova and and Mattek-Sands each collected $330,000 for winning the title.<\/p>\n<p>For Mattek-Sands, the win also completed a doubles double after she also took out the mixed event on Friday with countryman Mike Bryan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australian tennis ace Casey Dellacqua has fallen a set short of securing her maiden Grand Slam women\u2019s doubles crown after losing the French Open final with Yaroslava Shvedova.
