Congratulations to Hensman Park Tennis Club<\/strong> and Blue Gum Park Tennis Club<\/strong> who won the Men’s and Women’s State League Final respectively……<\/p>\n

Women’s Final\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

City Beach TC\u00a0\u00a02-5-56 \u00a0 DEFEATED BY \u00a0 Blue Gum Park TC 4-8-64<\/em><\/p>\n

In matches\u00a0see-sawing control, Meg Connell<\/strong> and Katy O’Shea<\/strong> gave City Beach an early 2 rubber lead with their wins over Astrid Kanther<\/strong> and Sheridan Currie<\/strong>. Then Nina Catovic<\/strong> took the third rubber for Blue Gum from Brittany Sheed,<\/strong> while a tussle continued between the number 1 players, Marisa Gianotti<\/strong> and Nicole Sewell<\/strong>. Sewell’s preference for grass court shots unsettled Marissa, who lost 1-6 in the third set. The match was now close with City Beach ahead by only 1 set.<\/p>\n

Blue Gum brought in an injured Janelle Cuthbertson<\/strong> who teamed with Sewell to beat\u00a0O’Shea\u00a0and\u00a0Sheed\u00a0in 2 sets.<\/p>\n

The Blue Gum pair of Catovic and \u00a0Currie had won the first set in their doubles, and games were being added to determine ‘who needed what’ to win. The game difference was only two, and the next set was very close, making for a nail biting finish…<\/p>\n

Blue Gum sealed the match winning 7-5 in the second, giving them the title in their first season since promotion into State League!<\/p>\n

Men’s Final<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Greenwood TC 1-4-53 \u00a0 DEFEATED BY \u00a0Hensman Park TC 4-9-63<\/em><\/p>\n

Greenwood’s Lance Hinds\u00a0<\/strong>started very strongly against\u00a0James Stuttard<\/strong>, winning the first set 6-1. In the second set Stuttard came back strongly with some amazing passing shots, and went on to win the third set, tying the day after a strong win by Greenwood’s\u00a0Strahinja Bobusic\u00a0<\/strong>over\u00a0Cameron Fenner.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hensman Park’s Ryan Offer\u00a0<\/strong>was too strong for\u00a0Louis Corker<\/strong>, and fellow Hensman Park player,\u00a0Zach Itzstein\u00a0<\/strong>played in a tight 3-setter against Miles Armstrong to give Hensman a 3-1 \u00a0lead\u00a0heading into the doubles.<\/p>\n

Hensman duo, Fenner and Stuttard played exceptional doubles to take the first doubles match and claim the win for Hensman Park.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
