The Newcombe Medal Australian Tennis Awards were held last night, with Victorians taking out eight of the 15 awards on offer.<\/p>\n
The night recognised the outstanding service to tennis at all levels \u2013 through clubs, coaches, players, volunteers, community and officials with Victoria excelling in all areas.<\/p>\n
After receiving nominations in all but two of the categories, Victorian nominees claimed the following awards:<\/p>\n
Most Outstanding Tournament<\/strong> \u2013 2011 William Loud Bendigo International<\/p>\n Most Outstanding School<\/strong> \u2013 Maribyrnong Sports Academy<\/p>\n Most Outstanding Tennis Community<\/strong> \u2013 Elsternwick Park Tennis Club<\/p>\n Coaching Excellence (Club)<\/strong> \u2013 Wes Horskins<\/p>\n Most Outstanding 35+ Tennis Senior<\/strong> \u2013 Andrew Rae<\/p>\n Most Outstanding Athlete with a Disability<\/strong> \u2013 Glen Flindell<\/p>\n Volunteer Achievement Award<\/strong> \u2013 Anne Baldwin<\/p>\n Tennis Australia\u2019s President\u2019s Spirit of Tennis Award<\/strong> \u2013 Ian Barclay<\/p>\n The main award on the night was the Newcombe Medal, which was won by Samantha Stosur for the third consecutive year.<\/p>\n Stosur received the award for being Australia\u2019s most outstanding elite player in 2012. The other finalists were Victorian Marinko Matosevic, Casey Dellacqua and Lleyton Hewitt.<\/p>\n Tennis Victoria would like to congratulate all our winners and nominees on another outstanding year and look forward to 2013!<\/p>\n
