After a career best year in 2012, Victorian Marinko Matosevic (Dandenong North) will look to add another medal to his cabinet on Monday night when the Newcombe Medal winner is announced.<\/p>\n
Matosevic has been nominated for the prestigious award recognising Australia\u2019s most outstanding tennis player alongside Lleyton Hewitt, Casey Dellacqua and last years winner Sam Stosur.<\/p>\n
The winner will be announced on Monday 3 December at a black tie event at the Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an honour to be nominated for the Newcombe Medal after the greatest modern day Australian player,\u201d said Matosevic.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be a nice chance to get dressed up, I can\u2019t wait for Monday night.\u201d<\/p>\n
Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley said Marinko\u2019s rapid ranking rise in 2012 was \u201ca great story for Australian sport.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s got the award this year for the ATP\u2019s most improved player, he\u2019s got himself into the top 50 from being outside the top 100,\u201d said Tiley.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re obviously very proud of his accomplishments this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards will also take place on the night, where Victorian\u2019s are nominated in all but two of the categories.<\/p>\n
