{"id":6666,"date":"2012-05-28T17:00:53","date_gmt":"2012-05-28T07:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=6666"},"modified":"2012-05-28T17:00:53","modified_gmt":"2012-05-28T07:00:53","slug":"blind-tennis-program-starts-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2012\/05\/28\/blind-tennis-program-starts-friday","title":{"rendered":"Blind Tennis Program Starts Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tennis Victoria will be working with Blind Sports Victoria to deliver a six week program to players who are visually impaired.<\/p>\n<p>Starting on Friday, the six week program lasts for two hours and gives all\u00a0visually impaired people the chance to\u00a0get active and\u00a0participate in tennis.<\/p>\n<p>The program uses modified balls and courts to cater for the individual needs of each participant and will be the second of three six week programs held over 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Piekarski has been involved in the program for a number of years and says it provides a fantastic opportunity for those who are visually impaired to become involved in tennis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great program&#8230; it gives you an opportunity to do something you may not have been able to try before,\u201d said Piekarski.<\/p>\n<p>He now hits once a week with a group of three players who\u00a0have no visual impairment\u00a0but said it was a challenge to reach that stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt took some time and some private lessons and it took some work,\u201d said Piekarski<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to play regularly and the hardest part of the program for me is having a consistent person to hit with each week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you want to look at the Blind Tennis Program in action, check out the video below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Friends for Fitness\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TTTyN03ClP8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>What:<\/strong><br \/>\nBlind Tennis Program<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong><br \/>\nFriday nights beginning 1 June<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong><br \/>\n6:30pm \u2013 8:30pm<\/p>\n<p><strong>Venue:<\/strong><br \/>\nMelbourne Park<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong><br \/>\n$5 per session or $20 for six sessions.
