Tennis Victoria\u2019s David Stobart has been presented an award for being selected as one of only three finalists for the 2011\u00a0Victorian Olympic Committee\u2019s Julius L Patching Sports Official of the Year Award.<\/p>\n
The award is considered one of the most prestigious annual awards for sporting administration and outstanding volunteer service in Victoria, with nominations coming in from all sports.<\/p>\n
David Stobart has been involved in tennis for over 55 years,\u00a0he began as a junior player and has supported the Victorian Pennant Competition for 40 years.<\/p>\n
He has been a member of Tennis Victoria\u2019s Board for 12 years and was a Tennis Australia Board member from 2005 to 2009. He remains a Tennis Australia member representative.<\/p>\n
In 2007, David was accepted onto the International Tennis Federation Seniors Committee and is still a current member.<\/p>\n
Projects that David has supported include the ITF Seniors tournament restructure roll-out of a new national player development and tournament pathway.<\/p>\n
He has overseen the strength of tennis participation within the State with an estimated 590,000 participants annually.<\/p>\n
Some of the criteria for the award include longevity of service, level of contribution, impact to sport, demonstration of excellence, attitude and peer feedback, which Stobart excelled in.<\/p>\n
The award was presented at the Victorian Olympic Council (VOC) AGM, with twin brothers Kevin and Ross Wilson (Yachting) taking out the top prize.<\/p>\n
Stobart was a finalist for the award along with Brian Moore (Athletics Victoria) and Anthony Villanti (Victorian Weightlifting Association Inc).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
