When over 1,500 players descend on regional Victoria each February, it\u2019s not just for the competition. Tennis Victoria Country Week is a rite of passage, a week where competition, community and tradition collide across over 100 grass courts.<\/p>\n
For Country Week 2026, one of those experiencing it for the first time is Will Taylor,\u00a0a familiar face to Gen Z sports fans and a passionate advocate for grassroots sport.<\/p>\n
Known for his sharp humour and ability to capture the heart of local cricket and footy culture, Will Taylor has built a strong following through his work with the Marmalade crew, Clubby Sports and Clubby TV. Whether it\u2019s backyard battles or club-level antics, Will\u2019s content thrives on the authentic moments that make community sport special. After the Australian Open, he has turned his attention to tennis and is heading to this year\u2019s Country Week, captaining his team, \u2018Will They Won\u2019t They.\u2019<\/p>\n
Will spoke about the atmosphere and how welcoming he has found attending Country Week as a first-timer, explaining what surprised him the most was “how friendly all of the people are, I\u2019m playing for the first time and it\u2019s made it more enjoyable how social it is.”<\/p>\n
For many first-timers, the true scale of Country Week doesn\u2019t land until they arrive courtside, and for Will, that moment came at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.<\/p>\n
“When we went out to Mooroopna, [we were] genuinely amazed at how many courts you can fit in one place. 1,500 people is a lot more than it sounds and you feel it in the vibe around the place.” Will commented.\u00a0<\/p>\n
With matches unfolding across the two venues and teams arriving from all corners of Victoria and beyond, Country Week quickly reveals itself as more than a standard tournament.<\/p>\n
What sets Country Week apart isn\u2019t just the insane numbers, it\u2019s the atmosphere.<\/p>\n
“From the first handshake, people sharing zooper doopers around and even a beer between matches is unique but adds to the fun of the day” Will shared.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The social fabric of the event is woven through every interaction between teammates, opponents and spectators alike.<\/p>\n
Will said what stood out the most was “the instant connection you get from people and that they\u2019re all here for the same reason to have fun and enjoy themselves with tennis being the common theme. We are a younger team but have hit it off with a lot of people already so early on.”<\/p>\n
That shared purpose is what keeps players coming back year after year.<\/p>\n
From seasoned veterans to first-time players, Country Week continues to prove that grassroots tennis thrives when competition is matched with connection.<\/p>\n
