As we count down to the Australian Open in January, Victorians are getting an early taste of Grand Slam excitement with the AO on the Road tour bringing the magic of Melbourne Park to regional communities across the state.<\/p>\n

One of the latest stops was Yackandandah, where locals turned out in great numbers to enjoy a full day of tennis fun and country spirit. Adding to the excitement, Tennis Victoria\u2019s Sustainable Regional Tennis (SRT) Roadshow<\/strong> was also on site in Yackandandah as it has been supporting volunteers, coaches, and clubs across Victoria.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The iconic Australian Open trophies, Norman Brooks Challenge Cup and Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup, took centre stage on the day, proudly displayed for everyone to admire, and, of course, snap a few photos with.<\/p>\n

The event kicked off with a Hot Shots workshop for local volunteers and coaches, followed by a lively Hot Shots session for kids, who got to experience all the fun and energy of tennis in true AO style. Adults weren\u2019t left out either, with a high-energy Cardio Tennis session made even more special by a guest appearance from Luke Saville<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Luke, who grew up in the small regional town of Berri in South Australia, shared his love for regional communities: \u201cI love the country attitude, I feel like we\u2019re very humble. I love getting out to the regions, and I think it\u2019s very important to support those communities as much as possible.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Luke jumped on court for a hit with some of the attendees before joining a Q&A session facilitated by Tennis Victoria CEO Kim Kachel<\/strong>, where he shared insights about life on tour and his tennis journey, \u201chaving these clubs is the lifeblood of tennis in Australia, especially at the grassroots level. I see the passion and talent firsthand, and I think it\u2019s important to support them and connect them to regional hubs\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Luke also spoke about the SRT Roadshow: \u201cThe Sustainable Regional Tennis project is fantastic for engaging with local communities, giving them the support they need and deserve, unearthing talent, and connecting them back to the bigger hubs. Seeing the passion of the volunteers and kids is truly inspiring.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He then stayed around to chat, take photos, and soak up the friendly country atmosphere.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Off the court, there was plenty to enjoy, a sizzling BBQ, a live band, face painting for the kids, and a coffee van keeping everyone fuelled throughout the day.<\/p>\n
