{"id":40546,"date":"2025-01-22T04:37:46","date_gmt":"2025-01-21T17:37:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=40546"},"modified":"2025-01-29T23:08:17","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T12:08:17","slug":"vics-at-the-ao-update-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2025\/01\/22\/vics-at-the-ao-update-3","title":{"rendered":"Vics at the AO: Update #3"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Day 7:<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Saturday saw two of our mixed doubles pairs in action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Local Victorian stars <strong>Destanee Aiava<\/strong> and <strong>Omar Jassika<\/strong> faced Italians <strong>Sara Errani<\/strong> and <strong>Andrea Vavassori<\/strong> but were defeated 6-3, 6-4.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Later in the day,\u00a0<strong>John Peers<\/strong>\u00a0and his doubles partner\u00a0<strong>Olivia Gadecki <\/strong>(Queensland) took on Americans <strong>Robert Galloway<\/strong> and <strong>Nicole Melichar-Martinez<\/strong>. After a tight first set, the Aussies powered through to a convincing victory, 7(11)-6(9), 6-1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Day 9:<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Following their weekend victory, Australian duo <strong>Peers<\/strong> and <strong>Gadecki<\/strong> played Salvadorian <strong>Marcelo Arevalo<\/strong> and Hungarian <strong>T\u00edmea Babos<\/strong> at John Cain Arena. The crowd turned out in force to cheer on the Aussies, who secured another win with a solid 6-4, 6-4 result.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Day 10:<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Round 1 of the quad wheelchair singles featured an all-Victorian clash between veteran <strong>Heath Davidson<\/strong> and <strong>Jin Woodman<\/strong>. In a hard-fought battle, Woodman emerged victorious in three sets, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the second wheelchair match of the day, <strong>Finn Broadbent<\/strong> faced Turkey\u2019s <strong>Ahmet Kaplan<\/strong> but was unfortunately defeated 6-1,6-1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">With three Australian mixed doubles pairs still in the draw, the quarterfinals brought <strong>Peers<\/strong> and <strong>Gadecki<\/strong> up against India\u2019s <strong>Rohan Bopanna<\/strong> and China\u2019s <strong>Zhang Shuai<\/strong>. The Aussies triumphed in an intense match, winning 6-2, 6(11)-4(9) taking them through to the semifinals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Juniors:<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Victoria&#8217;s<strong> Ymerali Ibraimi<\/strong> teamed up with fellow Aussie <strong>Jonas Hahn<\/strong> to take on Italians <strong>Pierluigi Basile<\/strong> and <strong>Jacopo Vasami<\/strong> in doubles.
