{"id":40327,"date":"2025-01-20T06:02:30","date_gmt":"2025-01-19T19:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=40327"},"modified":"2025-01-21T05:45:56","modified_gmt":"2025-01-20T18:45:56","slug":"vics-at-the-ao-update-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2025\/01\/20\/vics-at-the-ao-update-2","title":{"rendered":"Vics at the AO: Update #2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Day 4 saw a couple of our double&#8217;s pairs and juniors begin to take court.<\/p>\n<h3>Day 4:<\/h3>\n<p>Day four of the AO saw doubles duo, Victorian <strong>John Peers<\/strong> and <strong>Jamie Murray<\/strong> from Great Britain, join forces against <strong>Borna Gojo<\/strong> from Croatia and Serbian <strong>Miomir Kecmanovic<\/strong>. In a short and sweet 45-minute match Peers and Murray came away with the win in a 6-3,6-7(5), 6-3 victory.<\/p>\n<p>Our second doubles match of the day involved an all-Victorian pair in\u00a0<strong>Marc Polmans<\/strong> and <strong>Matthew Romios<\/strong>. Romios experienced his Grand Slam debut alongside old time friend Polmans. The Vics were victorious over the opposing French duo consisting of <strong>Manuel Guinard<\/strong> and <strong>Arthur Rinderknech<\/strong>, defeating them 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. The local pair will continue to <em>keep digging<\/em> in their next match.<\/p>\n<h3>Day 5:<\/h3>\n<p>On Day 5 our first Women&#8217;s Doubles pair consisting of our very own Victorian\u00a0<strong>Jaimee Fourlis<\/strong> and her South-Australian partner <strong>Petra Hule<\/strong> had their first match. Their opponents\u00a0<strong>Elise Mertens<\/strong> (Belgium) and <strong>Ellen Perez<\/strong> (Australia) won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, against them.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bsp_team_scr_row\">\n<div class=\"bsp_team\">\n<div class=\"bsp_prematch_team_name\" title=\"Destanee Aiava\">Next, <strong>Destanee Aiava<\/strong> faced her most challenging opponent so far in 10th seed <strong>Danielle Collins<\/strong> from the United States. Collins ultimately claimed a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-2 win in an intense contest that spanned two hours and 25 minutes. If you&#8217;d like to read more about Destanee&#8217;s Singles journey during AO25 click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=40331\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Day 6:<\/h3>\n<p>Our next Women&#8217;s Doubles duo Victorian\u00a0<strong>Daria Saville<\/strong> and Queenslander\u00a0<strong>Priscilla Hon<\/strong> took to court against the Italians <strong>Sara Errani<\/strong> and <strong>Jasmine Paolini<\/strong>. Errani and Paolini managed to take the win in two sets with the results ending 6-1, 7-5.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peers<\/strong> and <strong>Murray<\/strong> took to the court again to face off against Dutchmen <strong>Botic Van de Zandschulp<\/strong> and <strong>Tallon Griekspoor<\/strong>. The Dutch duo were victorious, winning in straight sets with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Destanee Aiava<\/strong> came back to play with partner <strong>Maddison Inglis<\/strong>, where they were defeated by Ukrainian <strong>Marta Kostyuk<\/strong> and Romanian <strong>Elena-Gabriela Ruse<\/strong>\u00a0in a competitive match with the final scores sitting at 6-4, 7(7)-6(2).<\/p>\n<p>In the Mixed Doubles, husband and wife duo <strong>Daria and Luke Saville<\/strong>\u00a0came up against American <strong>Jackson Withrow<\/strong> and <strong>Irina Khromacheva<\/strong>. They lost the match in straight sets, with the final score being 6-4, 6-0.<\/p>\n<p>Later on in the day, <strong>Polmans<\/strong> and <strong>Romios<\/strong> returned for their second doubles match against Finnish tennis player <strong>Harri Heli\u00f6vaara<\/strong> and British partner<strong> Henry Patten<\/strong>. <strong>Heli\u00f6vaara<\/strong> and <strong>Patten<\/strong> defeated the Victorians in straight sets, with the final scores being 7-6(7), 6-3.<\/p>\n<h3>Juniors:<\/h3>\n<p>Victorian<strong> Ava Beck<\/strong> was defeated by British player\u00a0<strong>Mingge\u00a0Xu<\/strong> in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.<\/p>\n<p>Victorian<strong> Ymerali Ibraimi <\/strong>beat\u00a0Brazilian\u00a0<strong>Pedro Albuquerque Dietrich<\/strong> in two sets, 7-5, 6-3.<\/p>\n<p>Victorian pair<strong> Ava Beck<\/strong> and <strong>Koharu\u00a0Nishikawa<\/strong> lost to Bulgarians\u00a0<strong>Rositsa Dencheva<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Elizara\u00a0Yaneva<\/strong> in doubles, 6-3, 6(11)-2(9)<\/p>\n<p>Stay up to date with us on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TennisVic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tennisvic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@tennisvic?is_from_webapp=1&amp;sender_device=pc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TikTok<\/a>.
