With just days remaining, clubs still have time to compete for incredible prizes, including tickets to the <strong>2025 Australian Open<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>Many clubs have embraced the initiative, seeing it as a unique way to engage their communities and support their programs.\u00a0<em>&#8220;A container in a bin is just a wasted fundraising opportunity,&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0said <strong>Peter Smith<\/strong>, Club President of Rutherglen Lawn TC.\u00a0<em>&#8220;Our courts, nestled next to the gum tree-lined Lake King, face challenges from Corellas that wreak havoc on our synthetic grass. So, it\u2019s a \u2018Containers versus Corellas\u2019 situation! This scheme helps us fundraise to rectify the damage, and it\u2019s fantastic to see so many members and neighbours involved.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The scheme enables clubs to activate their <strong>Donation Partner ID<\/strong>, collect eligible drink containers, and receive a 10 cent refund for every container returned. This provides a sustainable and innovative way for tennis clubs to raise funds while encouraging environmentally conscious behaviour in their communities.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Spot Prize Winners<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Congratulations to the following clubs, awarded <strong>Spot Prizes<\/strong> of two Ground Pass tickets to the 2025 Australian Open for their outstanding efforts so far:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Parkdale Tennis Club<br \/>\n<\/strong>A club that consistently explores innovative ways to fundraise and has been a standout participant in the CDS Vic initiative. Currently ranked in the top 5 for the Metro South East region, Parkdale is raising funds to install another Book-a-Court\/Visitor Access System pin pad and provide shade structures for their members.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Romsey Tennis Club<br \/>\n<\/strong>Recognised for embracing the CDS Vic initiative as a vital step towards achieving their goal of fundraising for new courts. With a strong commitment to improving their facilities for players and the community, the club is actively collecting containers to make their vision a reality.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mooralla\u00a0Tennis Club<br \/>\n<\/strong>Nestled at the foot of the Grampians, this small but mighty club is making an impact. Recently reviving their junior program, Mooralla TC is planning to use funds raised through the CDS Vic initiative to work towards resurfacing their asphalt courts, ensuring a bright future for their growing community such as their revived junior program.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Plenty\u00a0Tennis Club<br \/>\n<\/strong>Making strides in sustainability while raising vital funds.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rutherglen Lawn\u00a0Tennis Club<br \/>\n<\/strong>Onboard with the CDS Vic initiative since early 2024, Rutherglen Lawn TC saw the program as a fantastic fundraising opportunity. With a convenient collection point located at a local service station, the club has made it easy for members and the community to contribute, showcasing their proactive approach to sustainability and fundraising.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Warrnambool Lawn\u00a0Tennis Club<br \/>\n<\/strong>Recognised for their dedication and hard work, Warrnambool implemented the CDS Vic initiative in December 2023. The club is deeply engaged with their community, collaborating with various groups and charities. Just last week, they raised funds for the mental health charity <em>Ski for Life<\/em> through the AO on the Road event, showcasing their commitment to making a positive impact both on and off the court.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>How It Works<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Tennis clubs across Victoria are grouped into their respective regions \u2014 Country West, Metro North West, Metro South East, and Country East\u2014and compete to collect the most containers.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the Spot Prizes, the top-performing clubs will win major rewards, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 x Partner Reserve tickets to the 2025 Australian Open and 2 Ground Pass tickets to the 2025 Australian Open for the top performing Club in each Tennis Victoria region (Metro South East, Metro North West, Country East and Country West).<\/li>\n<li>2 x Men\u2019s final tickets with a behind the scenes tour to the 2025 Australian Open; 2 Ground Pass tickets with a behind the scenes tour to the 2025 Australian Open for the top performing club across the state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Fiona Young, Tennis Victoria\u2019s Places to Play Manager, shared her excitement:<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cThis partnership between Tennis Victoria and the Container Deposit Scheme is a win-win for our community tennis clubs and the environment. By recycling eligible containers, clubs not only reduce landfill waste but also generate additional revenue that can be reinvested into facilities, programs, or other sustainability initiatives.
