{"id":3722,"date":"2011-05-19T11:35:54","date_gmt":"2011-05-19T01:35:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=3722"},"modified":"2011-05-19T11:35:54","modified_gmt":"2011-05-19T01:35:54","slug":"2011-pizzey-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2011\/05\/19\/2011-pizzey-cup","title":{"rendered":"2011 Pizzey Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Victoria has\u00a0played a nail bitting final at the 2011 Pizzey Cup, going down\u00a0to New South Wales for the third consecutive year.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen secondary school students, made up of eight boys and eight girls, travelled to Bendigo to compete against secondary school students from all over Australia.<\/p>\n<p>After cruising through the early rounds the Victorians fell just short in the final losing by ten rubbers to eight. Over half the rubbers played in the final went into the third set.<\/p>\n<p>Girls\u2019 team manager Sally Kirstine explained just how tight the final was.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt came down to if we won the last rubber on the day we would have won overall by a set,\u201d said Kirstine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had seven three set matches out of twelve. Unfortunately we could only win one of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite losing the final Kirstine said all the players had a great week and enjoyed the mixed teams format.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe kids just love the week. The idea is to get them to combine really well because there is a mix doubles component at the event,\u201d said Kirstine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a brilliant week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tennis Victoria would like to congratulate the following players for their outstanding efforts in reaching the Pizzey Cup final.<\/p>\n<p>The Pizzey Cup is a national competition for secondary school students from all over Australia. The Victorian team was selected at trials held earlier this year by the Victorian Secondary Schools Sporting Association (VSSSA).
