The Gala day has quickly become a highlight for the kids each summer season. All teams from each section attend the 1 venue and compete against one another in a round robin. Play is doubles only. This year we went with a shorts sets format. Last year we used 10 point tie-breakers as the format to cement that knowledge for the kids.

The day is designed to be a fun introduction to tournament style play in a familiar environment against players they already know. It encourages kids to get to know their opponents and introduces them to having to come to the tournament desk to enter their scores.

Host clubs play an important role in welcoming the kids, having a team of volunteers running the draw and coordinating the kids on court. A sausage sizzle also provides a welcome snack across the morning.

Winners and Runners up are presented with a medal at the end of the morning’s play. Another award on offer is our Sportsmanship award presented to the player from each section who shows excellent sportsmanship and a passion for tennis.

All up in excess of 430 kids participated across 12 venues.

For more information contact Michelle Vennelle at secretary@peninsulatennis.com.au or your local Club Development Officer!

The 2nd PTA Gala Day was held on Saturday 8th October.
