The Sport4All program<\/a> aims to create more inclusive sports clubs and venues for people with a disability by creating community relationships, understanding common inclusion challenges and developing new training. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The program is open\u00a0nationwide, with five Victorian local government areas jumping at the opportunity to be part of the\u00a0initiative.<\/span> \"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

The pilot clubs are encouraged to\u00a0follow a three-step process, which begins with an inclusion scoreboard questionnaire\u00a0and an online learning course. Once these are complete, the next step is to put these new learnings into action.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The team at Coburg Tennis Club have taken the program on board with infectious enthusiasm, and\u00a0after having followed the three-step process, they decided to\u00a0put their learning into practice with\u00a0an open day held on International Day of People with Disability.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Supported by Penny Bunn from Sport4All, who leads the pilot program at Moreland City Council, the club liased with their Club Development Officer Luca Gallo and Tennis Victoria Inclusion Coordinator Emily Fox to host an incredible day of inclusive, community tennis.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs\u202fa club we wanted to run the Open Day to celebrate International Day for People with Disability as\u202fpart of our journey to becoming a safe, welcoming, and inclusive club.\u201d Explains Coburg\u2019s President, Ray\u00a0Reymers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe received a\u202fmessage from Heath Davidson,\u202fhad\u202fpeople sharing personal stories,\u202fthere were\u202ftears,\u202fand even a\u202fvisit by Ascot a trainee guide dog.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wheelchairs, blind tennis balls and\u00a0blindfolds\u00a0were provided\u00a0for players to experience different formats of the game they love.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was awesome to see\u202fkids and adults experiencing\u202fWheelchair and\u202fBlind\u202fTennis together\u202fand our\u202fmembers with disability having a fun time together.\u201d<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From messages from a\u00a0Paralympian to\u00a0sitting around the barbecue\u00a0after a hit, it\u2019s safe to say that\u00a0Coburg\u2019s inclusive open day was an incredible success!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
