This is a positive move to support venues in creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the key duties and responsibilities of the safeguarding officer are:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Hold a current Working with Children Check \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au\/\">apply here<\/a>! It&#8217;s free for volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Complete basic training \u2013 Sport Integrity Australia have a great <a href=\"https:\/\/elearning.sportintegrity.gov.au\/blocks\/androgogic_catalogue\/index.php?c1=Courses\">online module<\/a> which takes approximately 40 minutes to complete.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Promote their clubs Member Protection and Safeguarding Policies \u2013 view Tennis Australia policies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/TA-Safeguarding-Children-Code-of-Conduct-_V2_-FINAL-adopted-9-November-2020update2.pdf\">here<\/a> which venues can adopt.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Make sure safeguarding is an agenda item at every committee meeting \u2013 PBTR have a great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playbytherules.net.au\/got-an-issue\">set of resources<\/a> to inspire discussion.<\/p>\n<p>The Safeguarding Officer role is not something that is onerous or anything to fear. The key role is making sure Safeguarding is a priority for all members and users of the venue; and to report any concerns to the Tennis Australia Integrity team who investigate issues.<\/p>\n<p>Carefully consider who would make a good safeguarding officer for your venue. They should be approachable and trustworthy; children especially should view them as being friendly and a good listener.
