{"id":25576,"date":"2021-04-23T14:18:47","date_gmt":"2021-04-23T04:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=25576"},"modified":"2021-04-23T14:18:47","modified_gmt":"2021-04-23T04:18:47","slug":"tennis-victoria-pennant-season-to-commence-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2021\/04\/23\/tennis-victoria-pennant-season-to-commence-this-weekend","title":{"rendered":"Tennis Victoria Pennant season to commence this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of Australia\u2019s largest inter-club competitions is back this weekend as <strong>Tennis Victoria Pennant<\/strong> returns for 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Following 20 months on the sidelines, the <strong>15-week competition<\/strong> will return to courts in <strong>Melbourne, Geelong and the Mornington Peninsula<\/strong> across <strong>130 tennis clubs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In a new format\u00a0for 2021,\u00a0<strong>Men\u2019s &amp; Women\u2019s leagues will play singles and doubles each week<\/strong>. Two eight-game sets will be played for both doubles rubbers, followed by four singles rubbers.<\/p>\n<p>All matches will be played in a best-of-two set format, with a ten-point match tiebreaker instead of third set.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tennis Victoria\u2019s Competitions Coordinator Tyler Krumholz <\/strong>is excited for the Tennis Victoria Pennant season to return in a new format.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the largest amount of time we\u2019ve been away from Pennant in 138 years and \u00a0we\u2019ve introduced some changes to adapt to these challenging times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to have competition back again in 2021 and we know our players are as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After a Grade One Women\u2019s Pennant victory in 2019, <strong>Beaumaris Lawn Tennis Club star Monique Barry<\/strong> is excited to return to Pennant competition in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though we have been able to play tournaments in the last few months, I\u2019ve missed playing high level competition with my friends and team mates, and I\u2019m looking forward to defending our title from 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>2019 Men\u2019s Grade One winning captain from <strong>Glenburn Tennis Club<\/strong> (Glen Waverley), <strong>Lewis Miles<\/strong> is also excited for the challenge ahead and defending his club\u2019s title from two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re excited for Pennant to be back.
