{"id":25369,"date":"2021-04-07T11:54:48","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T01:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=25369"},"modified":"2021-05-18T08:37:25","modified_gmt":"2021-05-17T22:37:25","slug":"students-light-up-the-court-at-special-schools-come-and-try-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2021\/04\/07\/students-light-up-the-court-at-special-schools-come-and-try-days","title":{"rendered":"Students light up the court at Special Schools come and try days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a year on the sidelines, Tennis Victoria, alongside local coaches and council staff, were delighted to run a series of Come and Try days for approximately 100 secondary students from eight specialist schools around the state.<\/p>\n<p>The kids were put through their paces with a series of fun and challenging activities, from team building challenges to match play!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25373\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/NSSSA-1-700x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"608\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/NSSSA-1-700x450.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/NSSSA-1-200x128.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 608px) 100vw, 608px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The program first launched in 2019 and was made possible by funding from the Movement Disorder Foundation (MDF). Like most activities, COVID-19 put the program on hold, so both Tennis Victoria and the kids were beyond excited to get back on court this year!<\/p>\n<p>The focus of these programs are to build sustainable regional programs that provide a rewarding tennis experience for students and teachers at Specialist &amp; Hard of Hearing schools, and to create long-term sustainable partnerships between schools, clubs and coaches whilst removing perceived barriers to participation and engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Helen Owies, Tennis Victoria&#8217;s School Development Coordinator for the Metro Inner &amp; North West was pleased with the feedback from teachers and students following the program&#8217;s conclusion.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Many were asking how their school could experience this again and a couple of schools who don\u2019t currently have a connection with a local tennis club or coach were linked with a coach who was also on court both days.&#8221;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-25370 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/Come-Try-3-700x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"428\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/Come-Try-3-700x450.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/Come-Try-3-360x230.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/Come-Try-3-200x128.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 428px) 100vw, 428px\" \/><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Each child was presented with a new tennis racquet and ball so they can continue to practice and play with family and friends \u2013 just in time for school holidays!<\/p>\n<p>We would like to thank both Wyndham and Yarra Councils for their support.
