{"id":25315,"date":"2021-04-01T07:00:23","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T20:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=25315"},"modified":"2021-04-01T07:03:08","modified_gmt":"2021-03-31T20:03:08","slug":"a-popular-melbourne-tourist-destination-is-set-to-host-tennis-victorias-doubles-championship-next-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2021\/04\/01\/a-popular-melbourne-tourist-destination-is-set-to-host-tennis-victorias-doubles-championship-next-summer","title":{"rendered":"A popular Melbourne tourist destination is set to host Tennis Victoria\u2019s Doubles Championship next Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Tennis Victoria have agreed on a playing surface for next Summer\u2019s Doubles Championship, and it\u2019s not where you\u2019d expect.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The championship will be played on one of the most iconic and popular parts of Melbourne, on the tramlines running down Bourke street.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-standard-landscape wp-image-25321\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/April-Fools-v2-700x450.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/April-Fools-v2-700x450.png 700w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/April-Fools-v2-360x230.png 360w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2021\/04\/April-Fools-v2-200x128.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Being the external court lines that run parallel to the singles lines, Tramlines have historically been a large part of the Doubles game in Tennis, and in a major milestone for Tennis in Victoria, playing on tramlines will bring an increased reality to next year\u2019s Championships.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re already feeling the ease of playing the backhand down the line, and we haven\u2019t even started our first match.\u201d said a future competitor.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In a brand-new doubles format in 2022, matches will be capped at 2 hours to allow the Route 96 Tram to pass through, and the ease of being in Bourke Street Mall means that competition organisers only need to walk just 50 meters to get new Tennis Balls from the sports store.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cIt just made complete sense to host it here.
