{"id":24652,"date":"2021-01-04T17:04:11","date_gmt":"2021-01-04T06:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=24652"},"modified":"2021-01-04T17:04:13","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T06:04:13","slug":"2021-inter-regional-country-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2021\/01\/04\/2021-inter-regional-country-championships","title":{"rendered":"2021 Inter regional Country Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Warrnambool will host&nbsp;Tennis Victoria\u2019s\nlargest&nbsp;Regional&nbsp;Team&nbsp;Event&nbsp;this\nweekend&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;The&nbsp;2021&nbsp;Inter-Regional\nCountry Championships.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 200\nplayers&nbsp;have been selected to&nbsp;venture to South West&nbsp;Victoria\nand&nbsp;represent&nbsp;nine Victorian\ncountry&nbsp;regions,&nbsp;competing&nbsp;in both team and individual events.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\nhistoric event will be the 65th&nbsp;Annual&nbsp;Tournament,&nbsp;held over 3\ndays&nbsp;from&nbsp;<strong>January 8-10&nbsp;<\/strong>at the&nbsp;<strong>Warrnambool Lawn\nTennis Club<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tennis Victoria\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, Ruth\nHoldaway MBE is excited to bring a&nbsp;large-scale&nbsp;Tennis Victoria event\nback to Warrnambool.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWarrnambool will be the focal point for Victorian Tennis in January when the 65th Inter-Regional Country Championships take to the world class grass courts,\u201d Holdaway said.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u201cThis Tennis Victoria event showcases the range of players we have in the Tennis community, as it integrates women and men from under 12 to over 50 at one tournament, with a variety of formats played across three days, including Junior and Senior Mixed Doubles Events.\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\n\u201cIt&#8217;s an event with a\nfantastic, friendly atmosphere that players look forward to coming back to\ncompete in.&nbsp; It also gives players a chance to experience a different\ncorner of Victoria each year and we are delighted to be hosted by Warrnambool\nin 2021!&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\nWarrnambool City\nCouncil&nbsp;Mayor Cr Vicki&nbsp;Jellie&nbsp;said&nbsp;Warrnambool&nbsp;was\nthrilled to be hosting the&nbsp;Championships.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe welcome\nall players, their families and supporters to our beautiful city.&nbsp;I would\nencourage everyone while they\u2019re here to take some time between matches to\ncheck out the beach, rivers and our great cafes and restaurants.&nbsp;Good luck\nto all&nbsp;competitors.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kim Tobin,\nPresident of Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Club&nbsp;was also excited for the Club to\nhost such a&nbsp;large-scale&nbsp;event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe look\nforward to welcoming players from all over regional Victoria this January and\nintend to showcase our spectacular lawn court facility situated amid the\nbeautiful Lake&nbsp;Pertobe&nbsp;and&nbsp;beachside precinct.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe tennis\ntournament will be complemented by a social&nbsp;atmosphere\nincorporating&nbsp;live music, relaxing amenities and off-court activities.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four-time\ndefending champions, Goulburn, will be looking to secure their fifth\nconsecutive win and maintain their consistency into the 2021 competition.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before\nGoulburn\u2019s recent ascendency on the competition,\nthe&nbsp;Barwon&nbsp;Region&nbsp;were the dominant Region&nbsp;between 2009 and\n2016 with eight consecutive titles.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warrnambool\nlast hosted the Inter-Regional Championships back in 2008, ironically when it\nwas last won by a Region other than Barwon or Goulburn.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Warrnambool will host Tennis Victoria\u2019s largest Regional Team Event this weekend &#8211;
