{"id":19398,"date":"2018-10-25T15:35:21","date_gmt":"2018-10-25T04:35:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=19398"},"modified":"2018-12-19T09:41:20","modified_gmt":"2018-12-18T22:41:20","slug":"inter-regionals-launches-in-bendigo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2018\/10\/25\/inter-regionals-launches-in-bendigo","title":{"rendered":"Inter-regionals launches in Bendigo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>2019 Inter-regional Country Championships<\/strong> has officially launched during the <strong>2018 Bendigo International Pro Tour<\/strong> event on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>In front of spectators and players, Bendigo was announced as the host town for <strong>the 63<sup>rd<\/sup> edition<\/strong> of the Inter-regional Country Championships.<\/p>\n<p>The Inter-regionals is a Tennis Victoria tournament whereby the <strong>11 Victorian country regions<\/strong> compete across team and individual events. Held annually, the tournament sees <strong>approximately 250 participants<\/strong> take part in what is an historic event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tournament Director, Andrew Reynolds<\/strong> congratulated Bendigo and wished them all the best as the countdown begins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe town of Bendigo will be the focal point for country tennis in January when the 63<sup>rd<\/sup> Inter-regional Country Championships ventures here,\u201d Reynolds said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe event is such an unique one as it brings together male and female players of all ages at the one tournament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s such an important thing to represent a team and play for something bigger than yourself, and the players always say how much they look forward to Inter-regionals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two-time defending champions, Goulburn<\/strong> is looking to complete a three-peat and maintain their recent supremacy. But the Barwon region is eager to regain the title they commanded for the best part of a decade \u2013 with eight consecutive titles between 2009 and 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eliza Long<\/strong> and <strong>Aidan Fitzgerald<\/strong> have been star performers at Inter-regionals and they are excited to take to the Bendigo courts in January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy favourite thing about Inter-regionals is getting to play with your region,\u201d Long said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to be part of a team and get up and about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fitzgerald mentioned what sets it apart from other events is what makes it so special.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like that so many different age groups can get involved,\u201d Fitzgerald said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fun and the team atmosphere is so important.
