{"id":18698,"date":"2018-04-18T20:26:44","date_gmt":"2018-04-18T10:26:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=18698"},"modified":"2018-04-18T20:26:44","modified_gmt":"2018-04-18T10:26:44","slug":"tennis-victoria-announces-new-president-and-chair-of-the-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2018\/04\/18\/tennis-victoria-announces-new-president-and-chair-of-the-board","title":{"rendered":"Tennis Victoria announces new President and Chair of the Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>&#8211; Gary Clark resigns after an amazing contribution to the sport<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>&#8211; Tennis Victoria Vice President Dr Emma Sherry appointed as new President<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tennis Victoria today announced Dr Emma Sherry is the new Tennis Victoria President.<\/p>\n<p>This follows the retirement from the Board and as President, of Mr Gary Clark.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Clark said, \u201cI have recently reflected upon my time on the Tennis Victoria Board since 2011 and as President since 2016. I believe it is an appropriate time for me to stand down and allow others to lead the organisation into its next era.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I initially came onto the Board, I did so with the hope of being part of a period of significant change and progression. I am proud that this has been so\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am delighted to be handing over the Presidency to Emma. I congratulate her on being the first female President of Tennis Victoria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a sign of the maturity and the good governance of the organisation that the transition to Emma\u2019s Presidency has been seamless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis Victoria has established an unwavering commitment to good governance.\u00a0 Under Emma\u2019s leadership this will continue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is also important to acknowledge the quality of our current Board. The Tennis Victoria Board is comprised of a skills based, diverse and gender balanced set of Directors who have the capacity to take our sport forward over the forthcoming years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Clark concluded, \u201cI thank the Tennis community of Victoria for the honour of serving as a Board Director and as the President of the organisation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Clark has been an outstanding contributor to tennis at all of local, state and national levels over many years.\u00a0 As well as his contribution to Tennis Victoria\u2019s good governance and Board restructuring and composition, and amongst many other achievements, he has been integral to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The adoption of a new Tennis Victoria Strategic Plan to 2020, within his first year as President, fully aligned with Tennis Australia\u2019s national participation vision for the sport.<\/li>\n<li>A 61% increase in connected participants from 167,594 to 270,605 in his time as President, with Victoria representing 40% of all registered tennis in Australia from 26% of the population.<\/li>\n<li>Tennis Victoria\u2019s recent and significant staffing expansion to support local tennis, and especially coaches and regional tennis.<\/li>\n<li>Championing the concept of a win-win club and coach relationship being vital for overall venue success.<\/li>\n<li>Tennis Victoria taking a strategic focus to the \u201cbig picture\u201d issues at hand, including the future of junior competition on the back of the huge success and number of ANZ Tennis Hot Shots players, and doing so in a collaborative and consultative manner together with all local clubs, centres, associations, coaches and councils.<\/li>\n<li>The ongoing success of the amazing annual event that is Tennis Victoria Country Week.<\/li>\n<li>Highly engaging and well-attended regular Victorian Community Tennis Forums, now recently including satellite venues and online live streaming.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr Sherry was unanimously appointed by the Tennis Victoria Board as its new President and Chair unopposed.\u00a0 She is a leading academic with extensive experience in the Australian and Victorian sporting industry and its governance, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGary\u2019s contribution to tennis in Victoria has just been immense\u201d, Dr Sherry said, \u201cI have been delighted to serve as Vice President to him over the past 18 months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am proud to be following in his footsteps. I look forward to leading the Board, and working together with Tennis Victoria\u2019s management and all of our affiliates and stakeholders, for a bright future for our great game.
