{"id":17140,"date":"2017-05-19T12:27:45","date_gmt":"2017-05-19T02:27:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=17140"},"modified":"2017-05-19T12:27:45","modified_gmt":"2017-05-19T02:27:45","slug":"wheelchair-tennis-event-rolls-closer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2017\/05\/19\/wheelchair-tennis-event-rolls-closer","title":{"rendered":"Wheelchair Tennis event rolls closer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Registrations remain open for the inaugural Wheelchair Tennis Fast4 Run &amp; Roll Tournament and Come \u2018n Try session.<\/p>\n<p>The Wheelchair Tennis event to be held at the Hume Tennis Centre on Saturday, 27 May 2017 is expected to draw many enthusiastic tennis players.<\/p>\n<p>A FREE Come \u2018n Try session will begin at 12:30pm, while the Run &amp; Roll tournament begins at 2:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>The Run &amp; Roll tournament will include pairing a wheelchair athlete with an able-bodied player and utilising the Fast4 format. Hume club members will be on hand should wheelchair athletes not have a partner to play with.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis Australia\u2019s wheelchair tournaments coordinator, Holly Tawse is looking forward to the event, especially seeing how the unique format will be received by players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event is a social competition and the format of play allows the wheelchair tennis community to play with their family, friends, and members from their local club,\u201d Tawse said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt promotes the message that you don\u2019t have to play in a structured wheelchair tennis program to get on a court and get involved in the sport. It is an accessible sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tawse is confident Run &amp; Roll will provide the necessary platform to encourage more wheelchair athletes to take up the sport, but equally as important, \u201ccreate more opportunities\u201d for them to get on court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHume Tennis &amp; Community Centre is Victoria\u2019s only Wheelchair Development HUB.
