{"id":16952,"date":"2017-04-20T16:51:28","date_gmt":"2017-04-20T06:51:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=16952"},"modified":"2017-04-20T16:51:28","modified_gmt":"2017-04-20T06:51:28","slug":"2017-tennis-victoria-pennant-season-edges-closer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2017\/04\/20\/2017-tennis-victoria-pennant-season-edges-closer","title":{"rendered":"2017 Tennis Victoria Pennant season edges closer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The wait for over 4000 players is almost over as the 2017 Tennis Victoria Pennant season commences this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>On 22 and 23 April, players from 140 clubs will begin their campaigns across multiple sections of the competition \u2013 which marks its 134<sup>th<\/sup> consecutive year in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Pennant continues to be the largest inter-club competition in Australia, which occupies the interest of participants during the winter months, and boasts a unique weekly format of alternating singles and doubles matches.<\/p>\n<p>Clubs and players will have the added bonus of taking advantage of the new Match Centre software. With the ability to link profiles and individual player match information the new software will enable players to feel more engaged.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis Victoria competitions manager, Jeff Downes, is pleased with how the season is placed for its opening weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPennant is a wonderful competition and an important part of our competition pathway. We have seen in recent years rising youngsters Destanee Aiava, Jaime Fourlis and Andrew Whittington come through Pennant to now be on the world stage,\u201d Downes said.<\/p>\n<p>Downes goes on to reinforce the easy accessibility of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPennant also provides a player an opportunity to compete no matter what your standard or age as there is such a wide variety of competition categories available to clubs and players.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The season runs until the end of July with Sectional Finals and Grand Finals occupying the first two weeks of August.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The wait for over 4000 players is almost over as the 2017 Tennis Victoria Pennant season commences this weekend.
