{"id":16752,"date":"2017-02-28T11:25:07","date_gmt":"2017-02-28T00:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=16752"},"modified":"2017-02-28T11:30:11","modified_gmt":"2017-02-28T00:30:11","slug":"calling-all-future-australian-open-ballkids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2017\/02\/28\/calling-all-future-australian-open-ballkids","title":{"rendered":"Calling all future Australian Open Ballkids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is less than a week to go until applications close for a spot in next years coveted<strong> Australian Open Woolworths Ballkids<\/strong> <strong>squad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Boys and girls aged between <strong>12-15<\/strong> have until midnight <strong>Sunday 5 March<\/strong> to complete their online applications at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/ballkids\">www.tennis.com.au\/ballkids<\/a> for a chance to be involved in one of the world\u2019s biggest sport events.<\/p>\n<p>First round trials will take place across <strong>40 locations<\/strong> around Victoria between <strong>March 12-26.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of the continued commitment to increasing opportunity for kids across Victoria, trials will be conducted in many regional area, including<strong> Mooroopna, Traralgon, Kyabram, Sale, Somers and Geelong.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking as part of a high performing team, and on court alongside the world\u2019s best players is an incredible experience for all our ballkids,\u201d Tennis Australia CEO and Australian Open Tournament Director <strong>Craig Tiley<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Australian Open ballkids are renowned as among the most professional in the world and the players rate them highly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery year we have more and more kids wanting to get involved and the opportunity is open to girls and boys between the ages of 12-15. We particularly look for kids who are eager to learn, responsible, hardworking, prepared to play their part in a well-oiled team and have good hand eye co-ordination,\u201d Tiley continued.<\/p>\n<p>Applications are also open for all <strong>Emirates AO Series<\/strong> events including <strong>Apia International Sydney, Brisbane International presented by Suncorp, Hobart International, Mastercard Hopman Cup (Perth) and World Tennis Challenge (Adelaide). <\/strong>These applications will close in July.<\/p>\n<p>The training and selection process will take place over several months, with the final Australian Open 2018 Woolworths Ballkids squad announced in <strong>October.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>FAST FACTS: Australian Open 2017 Woolworths Ballkids Squad<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Australian Open 2017 Woolworths Ballkids squad comprised <strong>380 ballkids<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>333<\/strong> ballkids were from <strong>Victoria<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>19<\/strong> ballkids were from <strong>interstate<\/strong>: five from Queensland, six from New South Wales, three from South Australia, two from Tasmania, three from Western Australia<\/li>\n<li><strong>28 <\/strong>ballkids were <strong>international<\/strong>: 20 from Korea, six from China, two from France (Roland Garros)<\/li>\n<li>The Australian Open 2017 Top Ballkids were <strong>Campbell Steedman<\/strong> (Mt Eliza, Vic) and <strong>Summer Leatitagaloa<\/strong> (Footscray, Vic).
