Congratulations to Keon Park Tennis Club’s\u00a0Barbara Curry, who was awarded a 2016 Premier\u2019s Volunteer Champions Award, in the\u00a0\u2018Impact\u2019 category.<\/p>\n
Sixty outstanding volunteers received their awards at a special celebration and ceremony at Government House on Sunday 4 December 2016.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Premier\u2019s Volunteer Champions Awards celebrate and recognise the extraordinary contributions of all volunteers in Victoria, and the vital role they play in creating happier, healthier and well-connected communities.<\/p>\n
A long serving volunteer in the tennis community, Barbara is well known for her work with underprivileged youth in the Reservoir area.<\/p>\n
Funded by Tennis Victoria’s ACE Grants Program, the Keon Park Tennis Club deliver an after school program for students from\u00a0the Reservoir East Primary School. The program is delivered by the club\u2019s\u00a0professional coach and due to increasing numbers of participants, an assistant\u00a0coach also helps to deliver the sessions.<\/p>\n
Financial support from the ACE\u00a0funding, the City of Darebin and the donation of a bus from the local high school\u00a0has helped offset the transport and coaching costs.<\/p>\n
