{"id":16352,"date":"2016-11-15T16:16:36","date_gmt":"2016-11-15T05:16:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=16352"},"modified":"2016-11-15T16:26:21","modified_gmt":"2016-11-15T05:26:21","slug":"central-gippsland-claim-inaugural-judy-dalton-cup-in-yarrawonga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2016\/11\/15\/central-gippsland-claim-inaugural-judy-dalton-cup-in-yarrawonga","title":{"rendered":"Central Gippsland claim inaugural Judy Dalton Cup in Yarrawonga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Central Gippsland<\/strong> have claimed the first edition of the newly renamed <strong>Judy Dalton Cup<\/strong>, defeating <strong>Loddon Campaspe<\/strong> at the <strong>Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club<\/strong> on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Regional Team Event<\/strong> was originally known as the Evonne Goolagong Cup before being renamed to the Foundation Cup for 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>However 2016 sees the 13\/u event renamed once again to honour Victorian tennis legend Judy Dalton, with the nine-time Grand Slam doubles champion attending the tournament in Yarrawonga.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel very honoured to have this cup named after me,\u201d said Ms Dalton. \u201cIt was a joy to attend the first competition as the girls were so competitive, the standard is high with a very friendly atmosphere. I wish them all good luck for their future careers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finishing second on the ladder after six ties, Central Gippsland rallied to defeat Loddon 4-30 to 2-21 in a tough match-up. Central Highlands 4-30 def Northern Mallee 2-23 in the playoff for third.<\/p>\n<p>The final Regional Team Event for 2016 will see 12\/u boys and girls compete in the <strong>Alicia Molik Cup<\/strong> at the Dingley Tennis Club on the 10th and 11<sup>th<\/sup> of December.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the event:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regional Team Events are held across Victoria each year for teams from both metropolitan associations and from our 11 country regions.
