{"id":15494,"date":"2016-04-18T17:31:43","date_gmt":"2016-04-18T07:31:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=15494"},"modified":"2016-04-18T17:31:43","modified_gmt":"2016-04-18T07:31:43","slug":"australian-juniors-in-thailand-for-world-junior-tennis-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2016\/04\/18\/australian-juniors-in-thailand-for-world-junior-tennis-competition","title":{"rendered":"Australian juniors in Thailand for World Junior Tennis competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six of Australia\u2019s best 14-and-under junior tennis players will compete in Nonthaburi, Thailand at the ITF World Junior Tennis Asia \/ Oceania final qualifying tournament, starting today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alex Bulte<\/strong> (Sandhurst, Vic), <strong>Philip Sekulic<\/strong> (Wakerley, Qld) and <strong>Enzo Aguiard<\/strong> (Parkville, Vic) will make their debut for Australia in the boys\u2019 competition. They will be guided by captain <strong>Bernhard Goerlitz<\/strong>, National Academy Victoria coach.<\/p>\n<p>Goerlitz said the team was looking forward to competing against other countries in Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team is really excited to compete in a team format for the first time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe boys had three days of training together in Melbourne last week and have started to build a team spirit both on and off the court. This is the first international trip for two of our team members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are several strong nations competing this year including the likes of China, Japan and Korea. The conditions will be tough so managing our team\u2019s recovery and nutrition will be important throughout the week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The boys\u2019 competition will run from today until Saturday 23 April. Australia will play Malaysia in their first round robin tie before facing Indonesia and India in Group D.<\/p>\n<p>In the girls\u2019 competition, <strong>Olivia Gadecki<\/strong> (Hollywell, Qld) will be joined by <strong>Natasha Russell<\/strong> (Coromandel East, SA) and <strong>Annerly Poulos<\/strong> (Canberra, ACT) who are set to play for Australia for the first time. National Academy ACT head coach <strong>Todd Larkham<\/strong> will lead the team in Thailand from 25 to 30 April.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe girls are really excited to compete. For Annerly and Natasha it will be their first time overseas to play in a tennis tournament,\u201d Larkham said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe girls will travel to Thailand with plenty of matches, both singles and doubles, under their belt. Annerly and Natasha competed in some high quality matches at the Australian Grasscourt Nationals last week in Adelaide while Olivia is competing at the Gallipoli Youth Cup this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a great honour and achievement to be selected to represent your country.
