{"id":14827,"date":"2016-01-05T08:45:04","date_gmt":"2016-01-04T21:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=14827"},"modified":"2016-01-05T08:45:04","modified_gmt":"2016-01-04T21:45:04","slug":"australian-open-wildcard-for-omar-jasika","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2016\/01\/05\/australian-open-wildcard-for-omar-jasika","title":{"rendered":"Australian Open wildcard for Omar Jasika"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rising Aussie star <strong>Omar Jasika <\/strong>(Vic) has been awarded a wildcard into the main draw of Australian Open 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Eighteen-year-old Jasika won the US Open junior singles and doubles championships in 2014 and has spent the past 18 months working his way onto the professional tour, slashing his ranking from 841 in October 2014, peaking at world No.256 in August this year, and is currently world No.311.<\/p>\n<p>He started 2015 playing qualifying for the Australian Open, defeating the much more highly ranked <strong>John-Patrick Smith<\/strong> in three tough sets, before losing in the third round to <strong>Marius Copil<\/strong> (ROU).
