Polmans recovered from a challenging opening set to run out a commanding 3-6 6-4 6-0 winner over the top-seeded Anderson, in a 1 v 2 seeded final.<\/p>\n
The Victorian will gain a wildcard entry into Australian Open 2016 qualifying, as well as entry into next week\u2019s Australian Open Play-off.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels great. Last year I was runner up so this year to go one step further is a great\u00a0thing for me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really happy I get to play the wildcard play-off next week and the Aussie\u00a0Open quallies, so that\u2019s a big achievement for me.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlaying against those players (in Grand Slam qualifying) is good fun because I can see where my game\u2019s at. Obviosuly I get to play in front of my family and friends, so that\u2019s also a nice thing.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year I played against Tim Smyczek who ended up qualifying and losing in five sets (in the second round) to Rafa. So to play against those sort of guys is a great experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
Polmans began strongly to open up a 3-0 lead, only for Anderson to storm back and win six games in a row to pocket the first set.<\/p>\n
Yet Polmans was never discouraged \u2013 staying true to his physical, aggressive game, he broke serve early in the second set and held onto that advantage for the remainder of it to send the match into a deciding stanza.<\/p>\n
Once there, he grew in confidence and strength while Anderson succumbed to errors; although many of the games in the final set extended to deuce, it was Polmans winning the most important points.<\/p>\n
He served out the match resoundingly to post a final set bagel.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was feeling really confident,\u201d Polmans said of his week at Melbourne Park.<\/p>\n
\u201cI did a lot of fitness in the off-season before these tournaments so I felt like I could go the distance in these long matches. I felt like I was covering the court well and making a lot of balls and making it tough for my opponents.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was good to go the distance today and come through with a win.\u201d<\/p>\n
CAVRAK SCOOPS 14\/U AUSTRALIAN TITLES<\/h3>\n
Victoria’s Ken Cavrak (Green Gully TC) has won\u00a0both the singles and doubles 14\/u Australian\u00a0titles on Thursday at Melbourne Park.<\/p>\n
Cavrak overcame top seed Tristan Schoolkate in straight sets 6-4 6-2 in a brilliant display from the baseline, highlighted by a picturesque one-handed backhand.<\/p>\n
The No.3 seed closed out victory in style, bringing up three match points with a\u00a0crisp backhand winner down\u00a0the line and converting on his first opportunity with an inside-out forehand winner.<\/p>\n
\u201cI played a good match,\u201d Cavrak said after beating his doubles partner.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I stayed on top of the points well. I made more balls and forced him to make a couple of errors.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cavrak then backed up later in the day, partnering with singles runner up\u00a0Schoolkate to clinch his second title for the day.<\/p>\n
The pair defeated Tom Evans \/ Nikita Volonski\u00a06-3 6-4.<\/p>\n
