{"id":14540,"date":"2015-11-02T09:57:21","date_gmt":"2015-11-01T22:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=14540"},"modified":"2015-11-02T09:57:21","modified_gmt":"2015-11-01T22:57:21","slug":"nations-collide-at-william-loud-bendigo-international","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2015\/11\/02\/nations-collide-at-william-loud-bendigo-international","title":{"rendered":"Nations collide at William Loud Bendigo International"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six nations are represented in the 10 top-ranked players set to battle it out at next week\u2019s<strong> William Loud Bendigo<\/strong> <strong>International<\/strong> at Bendigo Tennis Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Australians <strong>Jessica Moore <\/strong>(WA) and <strong>Alison Bai<\/strong> (ACT) will join some of the world\u2019s best tennis players in regional Victoria, where US$50,000 in prize money and world ranking points will be on the line.<\/p>\n<p>The Aussie pair will be joined by a strong Japanese contingent including top seed and world No.180 <strong>Riko Sawayanagi<\/strong>, defending champion and world No.177 <strong>Eri Hozumi<\/strong>, world No.205 <strong>Misa Eguchi,<\/strong> world No.211 <strong>Hiroko Kuwata<\/strong> and world No.246 <strong>Erika Sema<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In-form world No.184 <strong>Cindy<\/strong> <strong>Burger <\/strong>(NED), who has reached the semifinals at <strong>Australian Pro Tour<\/strong> events in both Toowoomba and Cairns in recent weeks, will also challenge for the title.<\/p>\n<p>Contenders from a total of 14 nations \u2013 including Russia, China, Sweden, Germany, the USA, Austria and France \u2013 make up the impressive international field.<\/p>\n<p>Aussies [351]<strong> Arina Rodionova <\/strong>(Vic) and [369]<strong> Storm Sanders<\/strong> (WA) will bolster local hopes to crown the first Australian champion since <strong>Casey Dellacqua<\/strong> (WA) in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Bendigo Premier League player <strong>Eliza Long<\/strong> (Vic) will mark her return to professional-level tennis after being offered a wildcard into the qualifying event.<\/p>\n<p>The all-female William Loud Bendigo International event forms part of the Australian Pro Tour, which provides local and international players the ideal lead-in to the domestic summer of tennis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bendigo International Tournament Director Andy Reynolds<\/strong> said the Bendigo leg of the series was a chance for players to acclimatise to Victorian weather conditions as they continue on their path to <strong>Australian Open 2016<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe quality of the playing list is exceptional. Strong showings from the top ranked players in recent weeks means the standard of tennis will be exceptional,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled with the strength of the field we have assembled for the 2015 William Loud Bendigo International and excited to welcome some of the best Australian and international rising stars to the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe outstanding facility at Bendigo Tennis Association is an ideal venue to host elite-level tournaments, and I encourage all local tennis fans to come along and experience international tennis right in their own backyard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying for the 2015 William Loud Bendigo International women\u2019s event gets under way at Bendigo Tennis Centre on Sunday 8 November, with main draw action scheduled to commence on Tuesday 10 November.<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 William Loud Bendigo International is part of the Bendigo Festival of Tennis, a fortnight-long event that offers playing and spectating opportunities to people of all ages and abilities.<\/p>\n<p>This year will also see the introduction of the <a href=\"http:\/\/tournaments.tennis.com.au\/sport\/tournament.aspx?id=D9980ED9-3E51-4984-875F-90B5287C8D7F\"><strong>Aust<\/strong><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/tournaments.tennis.com.au\/sport\/tournament.aspx?id=D9980ED9-3E51-4984-875F-90B5287C8D7F\"><strong>ralian Wheelchair Tennis National Championships<\/strong><\/a> as part of the Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 30 of Australia\u2019s leading male and female wheelchair players will be on court from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 November. The champion of the men\u2019s event will receive a wildcard to the wheelchair event at <strong>Australian Open 2016<\/strong> at the discretion of Tennis Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Other events included in the 2015 Bendigo Festival of Tennis include the <a href=\"http:\/\/tournaments.tennis.com.au\/sport\/tournament.aspx?id=37A04AEE-61E5-4691-B4D5-8BCE4C861AA9\">Bendigo International Pro Tour Junior Tournament<\/a> (31 October \u2013 3 November), <a href=\"http:\/\/tournaments.tennis.com.au\/sport\/tournament.aspx?id=D943D435-F510-433B-BF97-D2CFF118EAC0\">Bendigo International Pro Tour AMT<\/a> (4 \u20137 November), Bendigo Primary Schools Championships (6 November), Bendigo Bank Academy of Sport Training Session (8 November) and the Bendigo Festival of Tennis Corporate Challenge (13 November).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Six nations are represented in the 10 top-ranked players set to battle it out at next week\u2019s William Loud Bendigo International at Bendigo Tennis Centre.
