{"id":13322,"date":"2015-01-05T11:48:16","date_gmt":"2015-01-05T01:48:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=13322"},"modified":"2015-01-05T11:48:16","modified_gmt":"2015-01-05T01:48:16","slug":"barwon-win-seventh-consecutive-inter-regional-country-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2015\/01\/05\/barwon-win-seventh-consecutive-inter-regional-country-championships","title":{"rendered":"Barwon win seventh consecutive Inter-regional Country Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 59<sup>th<\/sup> Inter-regional Country Championships were held in hot and windy conditions on the grass courts at Mt Prospect Tennis Association, Creswick \u2013 home of the Central Highlands team last weekend. 508 matches were completed by 264 players representing 9 regions over the three day event.<\/p>\n<p>The Barwon team, managed by Mick Mullen, won for a record seventh consecutive year, and also won both the Women\u2019s and Men\u2019s Open singles. Carolyn McGann won her sixth Women\u2019s Open singles title, defeating Jessica Hartland (Loddon) 7\/5 7\/6, and Matt Hicks won his third Men\u2019s Open singles title, defeating Matt Moloney (South West) 6\/1 6\/3. Carolyn then teamed with Kelly Brunger to take out the Women\u2019s Open doubles, and Matt teamed with Adam Lasky to take out the Men\u2019s Open doubles titles \u2013 and they combined to dominate the Mixed Open doubles too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-13324\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2015\/01\/1_Matt-Hicks-and-Carolyn-McGann-410x271.jpg\" alt=\"1_Matt Hicks and Carolyn McGann\" width=\"277\" height=\"183\" \/><\/p>\n<p>David Starling (Goulburn) defeated Rod Wilson (Mornington) in the Men\u2019s Seniors singles final 6\/1 6\/4, and Julie Golightly (Barwon) defeated Fiona Walker (Barwon) 6\/1 6\/0 to take out the Women\u2019s Seniors singles final. David teamed with John Evans to defeat Geoff Summers and Rod Wilson (Mornington) in the Men\u2019s Seniors doubles final and Julie teamed with Fiona Walker to defeat Leanne More and Michelle Winchcombe (Loddon) in the Women\u2019s Seniors doubles final.<\/p>\n<p>The host club, Central Highlands had success in the Championships with Ashleigh Joliffe (Central Highlands) winning the Women\u2019s 22\/U singles title in a titanic effort.
