{"id":11813,"date":"2014-01-30T12:29:08","date_gmt":"2014-01-30T02:29:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/?p=11813"},"modified":"2014-01-30T12:29:08","modified_gmt":"2014-01-30T02:29:08","slug":"ao-blitz-the-wrap-from-the-ao","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/news\/2014\/01\/30\/ao-blitz-the-wrap-from-the-ao","title":{"rendered":"AO Blitz &#8211; the wrap from the AO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2014\/01\/eugenie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-11814\" alt=\"eugenie\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/vic\/files\/2014\/01\/eugenie-765x768.jpg\" width=\"410\" height=\"411\" \/><\/a>The Australian Open 2014 has drawn to a close and with it, the current AO Blitz.\u00a0\u00a0 Thanks to a great effort by many local towns, clubs, schools and individual players, Victorian towns were represented by over a third of the players in the male and female singles draw, 95 of the 256 AO 2014 players.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s draw saw Mt Martha (Grigor Dimitrov) make it to the quarterfinals, only to be knocked out in a close four set match by eventual runner up Kendall, NSW (Rafael Nadal).<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, Wahgunyah in Victoria\u2019s North East was cheering hard for Canadian Eugenie Bouchard.\u00a0 Unfortunately it wasn\u2019t enough to help the teenage sensation get past the ultimate Australian Open 2014 Women\u2019s Singles Champion, Watervale, SA (Li Na).<\/p>\n<p>Watervale, South Australia along with Macclesfield\/Echunga, South Australia (Australian Open 2014 Men\u2019s Singles Champion, Stanislas Wawrinka) will celebrate their victories with a town party on World Tennis Day in March.\u00a0 The highest AO Blitz point scorers in each of the winning towns are also celebrating with a $10,000 ANZ Advantage Access account.<\/p>\n<p>One member of the Wodonga community will also be celebrating with a $500 ANZ Visa Debit Card thanks to their allocated player, Nadiya Kichenok, hitting the fastest women\u2019s serve at 202km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to Melton South Tennis Club who finished as the highest points scoring club in Victoria; 4<sup>th<\/sup> nationally.\u00a0 To award their amazing efforts the club received; 1&#215;40 inch Hisense Plasma, a camera plate signed by a player at the Australian Open 2014, Corporate Hospitality and Hisense Arena tickets for two committee members including one night accommodation,\u00a0 an iPad 2 WiFi +3G 16GB, and one set of new signage for the club!<\/p>\n<p>Next year\u2019s AO Blitz is sure to be bigger and better!\u00a0 Make sure you don\u2019t miss vital updates by pre registering your interest at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aoblitz.com.au\">www.aoblitz.com.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Open 2014 has drawn to a close and with it, the current AO Blitz.\u00a0\u00a0 Thanks to a great effort by many local towns, clubs, schools and individual players, Victorian towns were represented by over a third of the players in the male and female singles draw, 95 of the 256 AO 2014 players.
