The Wodonga Margaret Court Tennis Association, made up of local coaches from the Wodonga Club, took out the Men\u2019s A Grade title at the 2013 Tankworld-Rebound Ace VCTA Country Week defeating last year\u2019s winners The Lecontes in the final.<\/p>\n
On the women\u2019s side, a remarkable winning streak of six straight titles was broken when the Cobram Chargers took out Tandara in the final of the Women\u2019s A Grade in one of the upsets of the tournament.<\/p>\n
Held from 11-15 February, Country Week is the biggest grasscourt tournament in Australia and this year it was Wodonga\u2019s turn to host the prestigious event.<\/p>\n
\u201cCountry week is what country tennis is all about \u2013 bringing players of all ages and abilities from across the state together for a week to play some top quality tennis in a fun and social environment,\u201d said Tennis Victoria\u2019s Adam Feiner.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor many of the players, it\u2019s a chance to enjoy a week away with friends, family and fellow club members both on and off the court.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI know I speak for many in saying we are already looking forward to 2014 in Shepparton and Mooroopna.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to the tennis, the Honourable Hugh Delahunty, Minister for Sport and Recreation announced a $524,700 grant for the Wodonga Tennis Centre. Following contributions from the City of Wodonga and Tennis Australia to make up the over $1millon project, the centre will start the facility upgrade in the coming months.<\/p>\n
In a first for Tennis Victoria, the Board of Management met outside of Melbourne with Directors making the trip up to Wodonga in support of Country Week.<\/p>\n
Social events were also run each night at different venues in Albury and Wodonga, giving players the chance to unwind and socialise after a hard day of tennis.<\/p>\n
