The Grove Tennis Club

Official Opening of the Playford City Tennis Centre

04 November 2017 |

On Saturday 28th October, the Playford City Tennis Centre was officially opened.  The Mayor Glenn Docherty officially opened the facility with much enthusiasm of what it will bring to the local community and tennis in the region. John Fitzgerald a legend of Australian Tennis, was the guest speaker at the event, where he was suitably impressed with the quality of our new home.  John said the centre stood up very favourably not only within Australia but also on the international stage.  Our members were thrilled to meet and talk with John over a drink after the official proceedings had concluded.

The club was delighted to have many of its Life Members attend the ceremony, many fond memories and stories were shared!

The first club tournament at our new home courts created a great atmosphere for our visitors, and congratulations to Brett Gabell, Joshua Gill and Steven Arnold for winning their prospective divisions.

To round out the day, we were lucky enough to have both our Ladies Senior teams on court in the Saturday NETA competition. The Division 2 Ladies securing a 4 sets to 2 victory over Collingrove in a very tight contest in which they actually won more sets, but lost more games!  The Division 3 Ladies unfortunately lost to Tea Tree Gully 4 sets to 2.
