{"id":9956,"date":"2021-02-18T17:33:38","date_gmt":"2021-02-18T06:33:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/?p=9956"},"modified":"2021-02-18T17:34:39","modified_gmt":"2021-02-18T06:34:39","slug":"second-females-in-development-camp-a-hit-in-hobart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/news\/2021\/02\/18\/second-females-in-development-camp-a-hit-in-hobart","title":{"rendered":"Second Females in Development Camp a hit in Hobart"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ten Tasmanian junior players aged 9-14 years took to the <strong>Geilston Bay Tennis Club<\/strong> courts in February for a full day of on and off-court experiences during the second Tasmanian <strong>Females in Tennis Development Camp<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event, which followed on from the inaugural <strong>Devonport Tennis Club<\/strong> camp experience in December, was one of 25 specialist female development days being held across Australia, with the aim of amplifying opportunities for girls and women in tennis, as well as identifying players for state and national development pathways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed specifically for girls and reflective of what is\nbeing seen in the modern women\u2019s game, the camps focus on skill development,\npeer connection and unique experiences within tennis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Underpinning the program\u2019s overall philosophy is <strong>Tennis Australia\u2019s Wellbeing Program<\/strong>, with activities designed for nurturing the development of emotionally healthy players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>National Development Squad Coach Raphael Durek<\/strong> was all smiles following the program, praising the second intake of local female juniors, who were visited on the day by <strong>The Minister for Sport &amp; Recreation, Jane Howlett<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a really good day for the girls and they competed,\ntrained and connected with one another well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u201cTo have Jane come down and have a chat with them was fantastic, and it was awesome to be able to host the camp at Geilston Bay Tennis Club.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"656\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2021\/02\/Webp.net-resizeimage-163-1024x656.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9961\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2021\/02\/Webp.net-resizeimage-163.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2021\/02\/Webp.net-resizeimage-163-768x492.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2021\/02\/Webp.net-resizeimage-163-360x230.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2021\/02\/Webp.net-resizeimage-163-200x128.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tennis Tasmania\u2019s Schools Development Coordinator Alyssa Hibberd<\/strong> said the camps were a great way for Tasmanian girls to bond as people and not strictly as young athletes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was nice to see the second group of girls come together\nand to learn about and support each other, both on and off the court,\u201d she\nsaid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important that they leave the camps feeling empowered\nand proud of their strengths.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A third \u2018statewide\u2019 camp is planned for late march, bringing\ntogether selected participants to build on their learnings and development from\ntheir initial experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHopefully we can build on the&nbsp;
