{"id":9814,"date":"2021-01-14T12:51:36","date_gmt":"2021-01-14T01:51:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/?p=9814"},"modified":"2021-01-14T12:51:39","modified_gmt":"2021-01-14T01:51:39","slug":"females-in-tennis-development-camp-set-for-february","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/news\/2021\/01\/14\/females-in-tennis-development-camp-set-for-february","title":{"rendered":"Females in Tennis Development Camp set for February"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Aspiring female junior tennis players in Tasmania are set to benefit from an upcoming <strong>Females in Tennis Development Camp<\/strong>, when the newly-introduced initiative hits the south of the state early next month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set to amplify opportunities for girls and women in tennis, <strong>Geilston Bay Tennis Club<\/strong> will play host to the second Tasmanian camp, following the inaugural Devonport camp held in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>February 8 <\/strong>experience is part of a Tennis Australia initiative, with a total of 25 camps being held across the country this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to funding which comes as part of the 2019 Federal Government\u2019s $12 million commitment to women and girls in tennis, <strong>the South-based camp comes at no cost to players, with registrations open to all female junior tennis players aged 9 \u2013 14 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants will enjoy a full-day development camp led by National Development Squad Coach <strong>Raphael Durek<\/strong>, Schools Development Coordinator <strong>Alyssa Hibberd<\/strong> and Talent Operations Manager <strong>Trent Constance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aiming to develop player performance both on and off the court, participants of the female development camps will share in teachings as presented at Tennis Australia\u2019s national camps; including principles and lessons reserved for the Australian Fed Cup Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"726\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/12\/Webp.net-resizeimage-121-1024x726.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9709\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/12\/Webp.net-resizeimage-121.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/12\/Webp.net-resizeimage-121-768x545.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>The inaugural Females in Tennis Development Camp in Devonport was a success.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Females in Tennis National Lead<\/strong> <strong>Emma Shoemaker<\/strong> believes the holistic approach of the camps will provide participants with a well-rounded development experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese camps are designed to bring girls together and show\nthem that they are an important part of the Australian female tennis community,\nand that belonging to this community is something special,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed specifically for girls and reflective of what is\nbeing seen in the modern women\u2019s game, participants will focus on skill\ndevelopment, peer connection and unique experiences within tennis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Underpinning the programs overall philosophy, will be Tennis\nAustralia\u2019s Wellbeing Program, with activities designed for nurturing the\ndevelopment of emotionally healthy players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe format of a camp is unique,\u201d Shoemaker said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re able to create a comfortable setting for girls to\nexplore new skills, and we have the time and space to run activities off\ncourt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBoth from a wellbeing and on-court perspective, we know the\nskills we are teaching in these camps are ones that will be important down the\ntrack, especially if girls are looking to pursue high performance tennis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set to offer development opportunities for girls across\nAustralia, the Females in Tennis Development Camps will also look to identify\nplayers for ongoing opportunities available through both state and national\ndevelopment pathways and camps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These further opportunities also consist of initiatives\nthrough Tennis Australia\u2019s inclusion talent pathways, with girls identifying\nwith a disability, who currently play tennis, are encouraged to register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Players are asked to bring their racquet plus lunch, snacks\nand water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For players aged outside 9 to 14 years old interested in attending, please email <a href=\"mailto:eshoemaker@tennis.com.au\">eshoemaker@tennis.com.au<\/a> to be placed on a waitlist to be filled with any available spots once registrations close. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Camp Details:<\/strong><br><strong>Date:<\/strong> Monday 8 December (Hobart Regatta Public Holiday)<br><strong>Time:<\/strong> 10:00am to 4:00pm<br><strong>Location:<\/strong> Geilston Bay Tennis Club, 36 Debomfords Lane, Geilston Bay 7015<br><strong>Open to:\u00a0<\/strong> Girls from across Tasmania aged between 9-14<br><strong>Themes include: <\/strong><br>Exploring a key stroke in the women\u2019s game<br>Connection \u2013 team, fun &amp;
