{"id":9716,"date":"2020-12-16T17:18:34","date_gmt":"2020-12-16T06:18:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/?p=9716"},"modified":"2020-12-16T17:18:37","modified_gmt":"2020-12-16T06:18:37","slug":"burnie-eagles-claim-north-west-tennis-league-title-for-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/news\/2020\/12\/16\/burnie-eagles-claim-north-west-tennis-league-title-for-2020","title":{"rendered":"Burnie Eagles claim North West Tennis League title for 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Teams from three clubs have taken out <strong>North West Tennis League<\/strong> titles for 2020, headlined by the <strong>Burnie Eagles<\/strong>\u2019 hard-fought <strong>A-Grade<\/strong> victory over <strong>Devonport City<\/strong> at <strong>Burnie Tennis Club<\/strong> on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Burnie side (pictured above) claimed the first two rubbers, with <strong>Ben Cawston<\/strong> avenging a regular season singles loss to Devonport\u2019s <strong>Sam Whitehead<\/strong> to open the Eagles\u2019 account, followed by a doubles win to <strong>Shaun Summers<\/strong> and <strong>Connor Parke<\/strong> over City duo <strong>Jake Elmer<\/strong> and <strong>Jake Gleeson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Things took\na turn when Whitehead and Whitehead teamed up to hand Cawston and Summers their\nfirst doubles defeat of the season, and when Elmer won the first set of his\nsingles match against Parkes the momentum had well and truly shifted in\nDevonport\u2019s favour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parkes\nrallied however, digging deep to take the second set before seizing the super\ntie-breaker 10-4, along with the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>A-Reserve<\/strong> final saw two <strong>Devonport Tennis Club<\/strong> sides meet, with the <strong>Eugene Street Elks<\/strong> claiming victory over the <strong>Back Street Bandits<\/strong> by a single set, with <strong>David Robinson<\/strong> a standout for the victors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"612\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/12\/Webp.net-resizeimage-125-1024x612.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9722\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/12\/Webp.net-resizeimage-125-1024x612.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/12\/Webp.net-resizeimage-125-768x459.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/12\/Webp.net-resizeimage-125.jpg 1947w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>A-Reserve champions, the Eugene Street Elks.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wynyard\/Somerset<\/strong> overcame a resilient <strong>Latrobe Demons<\/strong> outfit in the <strong>B-Grade <\/strong>final, taking out two super tie-breakers and emerging victorious, despite the efforts of division player of the year <strong>Jamie Fawkner<\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summers was\npleased with the level of support the finals day received from the North West\ncommunity, with all three deciders held at the Burnie Tennis Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of the\nmatches were super close and it was pretty loud throughout the day;
