{"id":9530,"date":"2020-11-18T15:13:38","date_gmt":"2020-11-18T04:13:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/?p=9530"},"modified":"2020-11-18T15:20:32","modified_gmt":"2020-11-18T04:20:32","slug":"tasmanian-juniors-to-benefit-from-females-in-tennis-development-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/news\/2020\/11\/18\/tasmanian-juniors-to-benefit-from-females-in-tennis-development-camp","title":{"rendered":"Females in Tennis Development Camp announced"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Aspiring female junior tennis players in Tasmania are set to benefit from<strong> Tennis Australia\u2019s Females in Tennis Development Camp<\/strong>, when the newly-introduced initiative hits the state\u00a0early next month.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set to amplify opportunities for girls and women in tennis,<strong> Devonport Tennis Club <\/strong>will play host to the first instalment of two camps being rolled out across the state, with a total of 25 camps being held across Australia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to funding which comes as part of the 2019<strong> Federal Government\u2019s $12 million <\/strong>commitment to women and girls in tennis, the North-based camp comes at no cost to players, with registrations open to all female junior tennis players aged 9 \u2013 14 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hitting the <strong>Devonport Tennis Club<\/strong> on <strong>Sunday 6 December<\/strong>, participants will enjoy a full day development camp led by <strong>National Development Squad Coach, Raphael Durek<\/strong> and <strong>Tennis Tasmania\u2019s Schools Development Coordinator, Alyssa Hibberd<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aiming to develop player performance both on and off the court, participants of the female development camps will share in teachings as presented at Tennis Australia\u2019s national camps; including principles and lessons reserved for the Australian Fed Cup Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/11\/Webp.net-resizeimage-62-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9532\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/11\/Webp.net-resizeimage-62.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/11\/Webp.net-resizeimage-62-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Females in Tennis National Lead Emma Shoemaker <\/strong>believes the holistic approach of the camps will provide participants with a well-rounded development experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese camps are designed to bring girls together and show them that they are an important part of the Australian female tennis community, and that belonging to this community is something special,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed specifically for girls and reflective of what\nis being seen in the modern women\u2019s game, participants will focus on skill\ndevelopment, peer connection and unique experiences within tennis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Underpinning the programs overall philosophy, will\nbe Tennis Australia\u2019s Wellbeing Program, with activities designed for nurturing\nthe development of emotionally healthy players.<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe format of a camp is unique,&#8221; Shoemaker said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re able to create a comfortable setting for girls to explore new skills, and we have the time and space to run activities off court.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBoth from a wellbeing and on-court perspective, we know the skills we are teaching in these camps are ones that will be important down the track, especially if girls are looking to pursue high performance tennis.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set to offer development opportunities for girls across Australia, the Females in Tennis Development camps will also look to identify players for ongoing opportunities available through both state and national development pathways and camps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These further opportunities also consist of initiatives through Tennis Australia\u2019s inclusion talent pathways, with girls identifying with a disability, who currently play tennis, are encouraged to register.<strong><br> <\/strong><br><strong>Camp Details:<\/strong><br><strong>Date:<\/strong> Sunday 6 December<strong><em> <br><\/em>Time:<\/strong> 10am to 4:30pm<strong><em><br><\/em>Location:<\/strong> Devonport Tennis Club, Eugene Street, Devonport 7310<br><strong>Open to: \u00a0<\/strong>Girls from across Tasmania aged between 9-14<em><br><\/em><strong>Themes include: <\/strong>Exploring a key stroke in the women\u2019s game<br>                                 Connection \u2013 team, fun &amp;
