{"id":9466,"date":"2020-10-16T17:00:40","date_gmt":"2020-10-16T06:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/?p=9466"},"modified":"2020-10-16T17:31:27","modified_gmt":"2020-10-16T06:31:27","slug":"mrc-tasmania-family-day-a-hit-at-glenorchy-tennis-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/news\/2020\/10\/16\/mrc-tasmania-family-day-a-hit-at-glenorchy-tennis-club","title":{"rendered":"MRC Tasmania Family Day a hit at Glenorchy Tennis Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The sun was out as and the courts were packed during a Family Day in October to celebrate the recent connection between The Phoenix Centre, an arm of the Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania and Glenorchy City Tennis Club.<\/p>\n<p>35 Phoenix Centre clients participated in the afternoon, which included a range of on-court activities and a barbeque. <\/p>\n<p>The event was delivered following a number of engaging group sessions at the club throughout August and September, which served as an introduction to tennis for many.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phoenix Centre Project Officer Esta Birdahic<\/strong> said that collaborating with Tennis Tasmania has been a fantastic way to promote the benefits of physical activity to clients. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been wonderful to hear lots of laughter and see people moving and thoroughly enjoying trying a brand-new activity,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of the participants had played tennis before.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>The Phoenix Centre provides mental health and wellbeing support to culturally and linguistically diverse individuals and communities. <\/p>\n<p>Among the suite of programs it delivers are weekly men\u2019s and women\u2019s groups, where participants undertake a range of activities to build skills that support positive mental health. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/10\/Webp.net-resizeimage-33-700x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"450\" class=\"alignnone size-standard-landscape wp-image-9472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/10\/Webp.net-resizeimage-33-700x450.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/10\/Webp.net-resizeimage-33-360x230.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2020\/10\/Webp.net-resizeimage-33-200x128.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tennis Tasmania Regional Manager (South) Michael Bulis<\/strong> said that it has been great to see Glenorchy Tennis Club and the Phoenix Centre working together to help provide members of the local community access to the sport and club facilities, <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis truly is a sport for people of all ages and backgrounds;
